Company backgroundVisionTo be seen as a ‘go to’ retailer providing quality everyday bags, luggage and travel accessories in New Zealand and selected overseas markets.PurposeOur purpose is to provide practical, fashionable, quality bag solutions for everyday use and travel.Strategic ObjectivesBuild brand awareness in AustraliaGrow new business with the launch of a fashion school/work laptop and tablet carry rangePromote luxury handbag range with targeted marketing campaign in fashion magazines using material from photo-shoot with Zena Ray designer clothingRestructure customer club programme and rewardsFuture developmentsAs a company we are looking at the following:Development of new marketsDevelopment of new markets could be achieved through opening new retail stores in our existing markets and expanding into other countries. The New Zealand Futures project will contribute to this by helping us identify potential international markets.Development of a wholesale chainThis could involve independent stores selling our products in both Australia and New Zealand. This would extend our coverage and exposure in these countries as many of the independents are in smaller suburbs or towns where our brand stores may not have a presence.Another possibility is to wholesale to a large department store chain. This would increase sales volumes and increase brand exposure.External operating environmentSourcingSourcing for leather goods is affected by supply and demand of hides. This changes depending on a number of factors, such as global trends or weather in the countries we source from. For example, if there is a trend towards leather car seats in car manufacturing, this means leather is harder to source and the price goes up. This can affect the supply chain requirements and results in longer lead times.. Exchange ratesWe buy overseas product in US dollars. If the US dollar value drops this reduces our margin. To combat this, we can take forward cover. However, if the dollar increases the money we have borrowed is worth less. Cost of doing businessIncreasingly, colours for bags and luggage are linked to seasonal fashion colours. This means our business is becoming more seasonal. EnvironmentalSome of the processes involved in producing leather goods do have negative effects on the environment. We continue to explore what we can do to minimise this through investigating alternative sourcing such ‘green’ tanned leather, These products are more environmentally friendly but the high price means they may not be commercially viable. Another option could be man-made synthetic products. We will continue to monitor developments in this area.Social aspectsThe social beliefs in the countries we source product from and the perception of a minority of our customers can affects our business. Many of our goods are made in countries such as China, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Vietnam. Some interest groups are vocally promoting the perception that goods made in these countries have been made by underage or exploited workers. Whilst there may be cases of this, we ensure that the suppliers we deal with are ethical producers and provide suitable working conditions for workers. Our Operations Manager and Quality Manager travel to these countries regularly to view the factories that supply our goods. They ensure the suppliers are operating in a way that meets our ethical requirements. ................
