1. How does the narrator describe Gatsby?

2. From where did the narrator come and why? What else do we learn about him?

3. In discussing East Egg and West Egg, Nick states: “To the wingless a more arresting phenomenon is their dissimilarity in every particular except shape and size.” Who are the “wingless”? What do you think the “dissimilarities” might be?

4. Compare/contrast the homes of Nick, Gatsby, and the Buchanans. How does each home reflect the personality of its owner? Make SPECIFIC references to the text.

5. How does Nick know Daisy and Tom?

6. Fitzgerald’s description of Tom, Daisy, and Jordan creates not only an impression of physical appearance, but also contains added information. What do you learn about their history and interests, and from their gestures and mannerisms? Make SPECIFIC references to the text. Consider age, hometown, education, interests, and accomplishments. Find a specific quote said by the character that represents him/her. What does Nick say about each character?
