3030220164465001562100000A Prayer Service for Large Assemblyor A Eucharistic CelebrationFor Elementary School CommunitiesRenewing the Promise is the theme for Catholic Education Week 2018. During this week of celebration there will be opportunities to gather in small and large groups to pray and celebrate liturgy. The following liturgical outline can be used in its entirety for a Eucharistic Liturgy, or adapted to suit the need of the elementary school community as a prayer service.*The readings chosen are for Thursday, May 10, 2018 (The Feast of the Ascension of the Lord). If your celebration is on another day, check the readings of the day or use the Ordo chart that is included here.Creating Sacred Space (especially important if in a gymnasium)Setting a space for worship is an important and essential beginning to any liturgy. Inclusion of religious symbols enhances this sacred space (i.e. banners, flowers, white cloth for the Easter season). These symbols are already present in the space before the service begins. Only the bread and wine should be processed at the Offertory Procession. The liturgical colour is white because we are in the Easter season.Outline for Eucharistic/Prayer LiturgyMusic SuggestionsThe 2018 CEW song can be used for any part of the liturgy.Opening Songs (as chosen from your repertoire)Some suggestions:Gather Your People – Bob HurdLift Up Your Hearts – Roc O’Connor, SJThis Little Light of Mine – TraditionalWe Are Called – David HaasPreparation of the Gifts (as chosen from your repertoire)Some suggestions:Here I am Lord – Dan SchuttePrayer of St. Francis – Sebastien TempleThe Servant Song – Richard GillardCommunion Songs (as chosen from your repertoire)Some suggestions:Christ be Our Light – Bernadette FarrellJesus, You are Bread for Us – Christopher WalkerLove One Another – Bob Dufford, SJClosing Songs (as chosen from your repertoire)Some suggestions:God has Chosen Me – Bernadette FarrellHe Has Anointed Me – Mike Balhoff, Gary Daile, Darryl DucoteSiyahamba/We Are Marching in the Light of GodIn the chart below are the readings as outlined in the Ordo. This year, the theme of Catholic Education Week is Renewing the Promise. We have the promise of God’s love and we know that God calls us through our Baptism to bring this love to others. Catholic education is a gift to us. We learn and grow with faith. This is also the Feast of the Ascension. Here in the Easter season, we celebrate the ascending of Jesus into glory and the work of redemption through his resurrection. Please join us in our opening hymn…Processional HymnIn the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.Amen. +Opening PrayerGod of grace and goodness,We gather in faith to praise and give thanks for Catholic education.Help us to live the promise of God’s love that we come through God’s world.May we continue to renew this promise in our Catholic schools and direct our actions to live in peace. We ask this through Christ, our risen Lord. Amen. +A Reading from the Acts of the ApostlesIn the first book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus did and taught from the beginning until the day when he was taken up to Heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. 3After his suffering he presented himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. While staying[a] with them, he ordered them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for the promise of the Father. “This,” he said, “is what you have heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, is this the time when you will restore the kingdom to Israel?” He replied, “It is not for you to know the times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority. 8But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. While he was going and they were gazing up toward Heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood by them. They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward Heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into Heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into Heaven.”The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 47Our response to the Psalm is: God mounts his throne to shouts of joy!All you people, clap your hands, and shout to God with joy,for the awesome Lord now rules the earth. R.For the Lord ascends the throne; the trumpet sounds with joy!Come and join the song of praise to God. R.Let us now acclaim our God as ruler of the world!Let the nations know God’s reign is here. R.*Consider ‘Young People’s Glory and Praise – A Psalm for All Seasons’ for EasterGospel Acclamation: Celtic Alleluia or a suitable acclamation may be sung.Alleluia! Alleluia!A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark (Mark 16:15-20)Glory to you, O Lord. And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation. The one who believes and is baptized will be saved; but the one who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe; by using my name, they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes in their hands; and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick and they will recover.”So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into Heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and proclaimed the good news everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that accompanied it.The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.Gospel Reflection (if required for School Prayer Service)The promise of our Baptism is evident when the cross is traced on our foreheads with the oil of chrism. We are marked as sharing in the building of God’s kingdom; to bring good news to the poor and live as salt and light in our world. In Catholic schools, we continue this mission. We become ‘discerning believers’ for the world, continuing to bring God’s message of love and peace to all we meet.Let us celebrate our opportunity to learn with faith anchoring our view of the world. The gospel of Jesus calls us to be light to all.Prayer of the FaithfulResponse: Lord, hear our prayer. For Pope Francis, our Bishop ____________________, and our priest, Father ____________________, we pray; R.For our parents, who show us love, and support our learning, we pray; R.For our secretaries, caretakers, maintenance and all support staff who serve us every day, we pray; R.For our academic staff, principals, teachers, EAs, ECEs, librarians, guidance counselors, who help us to learn, we pray; R.For our students, the centre of our learning community, we pray; R.For Catholic schools, that they continue to be a place where faith can be lived and celebrated, we pray; R.If this is a Eucharist, continue with Mass.If this is a Prayer Service, pray the Our Father then close with the prayer that follows.Leader: Please join in the prayer that Jesus has taught us… “OUR FATHER…”Closing PrayerLoving God,In this Easter season,we offer our thanks for the sacrifice of your Son.We are grateful for the promisethat is planted in our hearts at our Baptism. We are renewedthrough your love and mercy.Continue to guide us in your light. We make this prayer through Jesus, our friend and brother.Amen. +In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.Amen. +Recessional Hymn ................
