Why attend? IMAGINATION

[Pages:2]Why attend? Do you get tired of the same old thing summer after summer? If the answer is "yes" then you may want to attend Imagination 2020. You will be introduced to the exciting and fun "stuff" we do at Virginia Tech. We have engineers, scientists and college students ready to help you explore the world of science, technology and engineering . . . Not by watching, but by DOING! Who is eligible? If you are a rising 7th or 8th grader, you are eligible to apply. First time applicants will be given preference. What should I bring? Wear what you usually wear to school, but keep in mind that some of the labs may be messy. Virginia Tech is a large campus, so you will do a lot of walking. Comfortable shoes with closed toes are a must! You will use our computers and laboratory supplies. Lunch will be provided at one of Virginia Tech's dining halls. How do I apply? Complete the online application at https:// admit.vt.edu/register/ImaginationDay2020 OR use the paper form on this brochure. You must also have a teacher submit a letter of recommendation AND write a one paragraph essay on what interests you about engineering.

We've offered the Raleigh community

When should I plan to arrive and depart?

Imagination 2020 will have three sessions this year: June 29--July 3, July 20--24 & July 27-- July 31 from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm on the Virginia Tech campus. Transportation will be provided from Roanoke to Blacksburg and back during the third week (7/27--7/31) ONLY.

Recommendation

A letter of recommendation from a current math or science teacher is also required. Once we have your application, we will contact the teacher directly. Your application will not be considered without the letter of recommendation.

Cost

The July 20--24 session is free due to the sponsorship of Wing, MAAP and the Kevin T. Crofton Department of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering. A $150 non-refundable fee will be required for participation in the other two sessions. PLEASE DO NOT SEND A CHECK OR MONEY ORDER WITH THE APPLICATION. Should payment of the $150 fee cause undue hardship for an applicant, a small number of scholarships are available upon request. The fee is not intended to prevent anyone from participating due to financial concern. Call (540) 231-7337 for further information.
