1. John Lott, an economist, argues that handguns should not only be permitted, but

encouraged, and that hidden handguns make society better off, not worse. Using

economics, develop a case for Lott’s argument.

2. Each election in the United States is accompanied by a lot of consternation about

people who do not vote. For example, bumper stickers saying “I voted, don’t

blame me” show up regularly. Using economics, explain why some people choose

not to vote.
