The assignments were really valuable and the way they were sc affolded. I never had any idea
12/12/2013 9:28 PM
about preparing a teac hing dossier and I found it very valuable as I move forward in a c areer in
teaching in higher education.

I found the opportunities for small group disc ussions quite valuable. It helped to solidify the
12/12/2013 4:36 PM

on the subjec t and to also gain from how others interpreted the topic at hand. This led to a ric her

Ability to reflec t on work, as it makes you think about things you learned in the c ourse. To be honest 12/11/2013 9:43 AM
all of the topic s c overed in the lec tures were very informative and therefore the information itself is
very valuable due to its prac tic ality. I also really valued the guest speakers.

For me, the value of this c ourse was to make the time, onc e a week, to c ome together in a
12/11/2013 8:05 AM
c ommunity that is interested in higher educ ation. Without this c lass, it is easy to foc us on researc h
and forget the importanc e of teac hing in the graduate sc hooling proc ess. I enjoyed having a
dedic ated time to reflec t on higher educ ation issues.

I found almost all of this c ourse was valuable. I didn't like the ac tivity where we had to draw a c oat

of arms bec ause I'm not at all artistic and bec ause although I saw the value in thinking and talking

Don't know.

I feel that sometimes there may have been too many ac tivities planned for eac h session. It is
12/12/2013 9:28 PM
interesting to learn different types that we c an use later ourselves while teac hing but always doing
them ourselves did not always feel valuable.
6
At times the relevant readings seemed to be assigned after the c lass they were presented in. At first 12/12/2013 4:36 PM
I thought this was a tec hnique that was being employed on purpose and it may even have worked
at times but I would have preferred to have read the relevant c hapters prior to the c lass when it was
being c overed.
7
Although I did not enjoy some of the c hart paper exerc ises, I think they are important for setting the 12/11/2013 9:43 AM
tone and c ourse c limate.
8
At times, the lac k of struc ture of disc ussions made them run too long or go off topic s. While
12/11/2013 8:05 AM
disc ussions c an be a great way to learn from peers, the time-c onsuming proc ess, whic h was often
based on opinions, rather than informed opinions, led to a less valuable learning experienc e.
9
Nothing! every sec ond of the c ourse was worth it!
12/10/2013 5:55 PM
10
any aspec ts of teac hing philosophy that didn't have too muc h applic ation to my disc ipline area
12/10/2013 1:53 PM
(math/stats) however I feel as if the c ourse did a good job at being universally applic able to all
disc iplines for the most part
11
The nec essity of c overing a wide range of teac hing prac tic es, whic h c urtailed the opportunity to
12/10/2013 11:29 AM
debate and disc uss what they mean to us and why. This c an be rec onc iled with the follow-up after
the c ourse is over.

15
not sure, the readings were pretty disc onnec ted I guess
12/7/2013 3:23 PM
16
Some of the group disc ussions got a little off trac k and were hard to manage; but by the end of the 12/7/2013 1:40 PM
semester it tended to work out a lot better.
17
Some ac tivities seemed unnec essary, for example the Coat of Arms and the disc ussing the book.
12/6/2013 2:33 PM
Students did not seem to engage with those ac tivities.
18
Off-topic disc ussions - These tended to take time away from the intended material.

how to make rubric s for an assignment maybe?
12/16/2013 3:08 PM

It would be neat to have a topic that somehow involves how to c hoose appropriate c ourse c ontent, 12/12/2013 9:47 PM
or designing a c ourse from sc ratc h. It may be tough bec ause the c lass is so varying in everyone's
bac kground but it would be helpful to learn how to determine what topic ideas/c ontent are good for
a c lass that we would be teac hing.
3
Maybe a tad more time ac tually spent in c lass on the teac hing dossier would be informative.
