She could run so fast, in the heat of play, laughed so ringingly; and she wore the prettiest little frocks, with a bright red ribbon plaited into her dark braids by our maid. As to my new little friend, she hardly ever ran, and very seldom laughed; and when she did laugh, it was like the tiniest of silver bells, not to be heard more than a few ... ................
