Ensure students understand that providing a reason helps with the assertiveness of the response but it doesn’t need to be detailed – for example, ‘I don’t want to’, rather than ‘I think crossing the road is dangerous and we don’t have an adult with us’. Also ensure students understand that there may be times when they are unable to give a reason and it is acceptable to just say No. ................
