WHY YOU NEED A TRAVEL PERMIT (SANCTION)

[Pages:1]WHY YOU NEED A TRAVEL PERMIT (SANCTION)

Ontario Women's Hockey Association (OWHA) only sanctions events in which all participants are registered members of Hockey Canada or USA Hockey. When playing in a tournament or exhibition game, you need to verify your registration for the tournament and a travel permit serves as the verification that your team and its members are registered with Thunder Bay Women's Hockey Association/OWHA. Teams travelling without a travel permit will be subject to a fine and loss of further travel permits.

How to get a Travel Permit OWHA uses a portal based system to issue travel permits. Each association has an individual with a login that will apply for the travel permits for all the teams in that association. In TBWHA Junior Division, this person is the Registrar. Travel Permits are required for all tournaments that are not OWHA sanctioned and all exhibition games against non-OWHA teams (i.e. USA Hockey, HNO, Hockey Manitoba, etc.). Travel Permits will only be issued to USA tournaments if the tournament is sanctioned by USA Hockey. If you are playing an exhibition game against team that is not registered with OWHA, you may be required to submit a copy of the teams approved Hockey Canada Registry Roster or Approved USA Hockey Roster with the request. Approved Travel Permits will be issued back to the association via the owha portal system once the permit is approved by OWHA.

What is required for an Approved Travel Permit (Sanction) Team Coaching Staff must follow the below protocol to apply for travel permit in a timely manner:

Well in advance (min 30 days) of the tournament/exhibition game(s) contact the TBWHA Registrar with the following:

Name of tournament City, province/state where the tournament is being held Dates of the tournament/exhibition games The tournament sanction number

An approved roster in the OWHA Registry which includes: Coaches meeting clinic requirements for that division and category of play Trainer with proper certification All personnel with Speak Out/Respect in Sport Police Record Checks on File with the TBWHA/OWHA office Copy of opponents Hockey Canada Registry Approved Roster or Approved USA Hockey Roster for exhibition games only

The TBWHA Registrar takes the above information and submits through the OWHA portal. OWHA issues the permit. The TBWHA Registrar will retrieve the permit from the portal and send the Coaching staff a copy of the permit through email.

Requests for travel permits received within 96 hours of the tournament/exhibition game may not be approved as teams need to have an approved roster and Associations/teams have to be in compliance with their Criminal Record checks. If you do not receive the sanction by the Wednesday the week of the tournament, contact TBWHA Registrar.

Teams are required to submit any game sheets from exhibition games and tournaments outside of OWHA that have a major penalty, match penalty or gross misconduct within twenty-four hours of the exhibition game or last game of the tournament.
