Many people have their opinion on who is best and which one they would rather have. There are a lot of recommendations out there and those are based on research that is biased. In this feasibility report we are going to make a recommendation to you based on factual statistics and not on preference. We will tell you who to has the advantage in many categories and tell you which one is the best based on your favorite function.Chapter 1: Phone Comparisons XE "Phone Comparisons" Basic Statistics Battery LifeWhen it comes to battery life Android wins. Android phones come with a replaceable and removable battery. They are easier to find on the market. You can even buy charged up batter for on the go. On the other hand, the iPhone battery cannot be removed or replaced by the owner. It needs to be sent to the Apple store if anything happens to it. JailbreakMany Android OS comes with an option to Jailbreak it from its service provider. This means you can buy an Android phone, take it to another country and switch service providers without the hassle, or jail breaking. The iPhone does not have this feature, and customers run the risk of jail breaking the phone by themselves and breaking the phone.NotificationsAndroid also wins in the area of notifications. The android phone comes with a system wide notification system. You can also see all your notifications at once. The iPhone only sends individual notifications and they only happen on certain iPhone models.Internal MemoryThe iPhone’s internal memory wins over the Androids. The iPhones internal memory comes in different sizes and last a while. Androids have a limited internal memory which usually does not hold everything people want.External Memory The iPhone also wins over the Android in external memory. Although iPhones do not come with an SD card, people are happy because the phones internal memory is so large. DictionaryThe Androids dictionary wins with voice integration and user editable dictionary. This means people have an easier time using it. The iPhone dictionary learns your typing mistakes and keeps making them, not something people like.Mail AppThe iPhones mail app wins this battle, with one application that holds all your e-mail accounts. On the Android you need to have different applications for all your accounts and you cannot check them at once.File Transfer/ Sync Android has the advantage in the file transfer department. It comes with ‘plug and transfer’ feature. This allows you to transfer files between Android phone and your laptop the same way as it were a flash drive. The iPhone requires you to sync your files, like an iPod. That means you need a separate sync folder for your documents.Hardware Buttons The iPhone takes the win in the buttons category. One button controls the whole phone unlike the Android, which have different buttons that change functions.Text Editing Another win for the iPhone, with its simple editing features. The cut, copy, paste work the same regardless of the application. Whereas the Android editing functions change based on what you are doing with the phone. Charger The Android is charged with a Micro USB charger, which is one that is available at most retail stores. If your charger breaks, no problem, you can buy a generic one with ease. The iPhone requires you buy the same style charger that came with the phone originally. If you break your charger you cannot use a generic one.Chapter 2: App Comparisons App ComparisonsAmount of AppsApple has a clear lead over any other smart phone platform when it comes to raw number of apps with over 500,000 (half a million) and counting in the app store. Google’s Android platform now claims over 200,000. There are a few big differences between the two, but they cannot be seen in all categories. So we compiled information on the ten most important app categories. To our surprise neither ran away with the win. Each platform has a few victories.Application FunctionalityThe iPhone’s app count doesn’t help it in certain areas. Apple’s development department just recently started focusing on multitasking, something that Android programmers have been working on for a couple of years. Most importantly iPhones don’t run widgets; widgets are an extension of an app that appears on an Android phone’s home screen. When it comes to music and social networking widgets are a huge advantage.Availability of AppsIn all fairness the Android suffers from its operating system is available for free to anyone who builds hardware. Because Android phones do not have a static standard for its phones (screen size and processor speeds) games in particular can be glitch, and game designers hesitant to supply product for Android, knowing that the next iPhone is only going to come out once a year and will not need multiple configurations for the different processors and screen size. Another concern for developers is the fact that more than half of the apps in the Google store is free, including good ones made by Google its self. So those looking to sell their apps for profit tend to lean toward the iPhone App store where free downloads only account for a quarter of the listed apps, and the average cost of an app is $2.02.So Apple wins with developers.Synchronization As we get more devices that are connected to the World Wide Web we find things while we are separated from one or more of our devices. The solution is cloud service. iCloud (Apple’s cloud) does a nice job of keeping all of your purchased goods on all of your devices. If you were to purchase an app on your iPhone, it would show up on your iPad as well. However, iCloud is lacking one feature that I find very useful.Instead of just storing your data online for you, Google took it one step further. When you visit Google Play, you can surf through all of your music, books, apps, and movies on any internet connected device. The down side of apples proprietary nature . Furthermore, you can even install apps to any of your devices directly from the desktop store. For example, if you left your phone in the car and you really wanted to download Angry Birds but don’t have time to go get it, you can simply go to play., search for Angry Birds, choose your device and it will magically appear for you. So Android wins by a slim margin. OrganizationThe App store has been around over six years longer and it shows as far as ease of navigation and integration of the platform (app store)in to the device as stated above anything you buy on your IPhone will automatically show up across all your apple devices. Only downside to Apple’s iTunes is that there is simply no way to avoid using it – short of jail breaking the device.Chapter 3: Final Recommendation Our Final RecommendationBoth the IPhone and Android cell phones are great products. Based on the results of the research found in this report, the Android platform is recommended as the better option. The Android platform excelled in many of the categories that were compared and tended to have more powerful operating systems. These phones were also user friendly, had a greater selection of customization options, whereas the IPhone fell short on many of these categories and had a very meager selection of customization options.There is a much greater selection of Android phones models to choose from and is available with all the major cell carriers. IPhones only offered the most current model in which the only difference was the storage space of the internal memory while Android phones all have Micro SD slots that allow you to insert mini SD card and expand the internal memory of the device up to 32 gigabytes and increase the storage space available. While the ITunes store had more apps than the Android Market, many of the apps cost more than on the Android Market which provided some big sellers free of charge. One such app was “Angry Birds” which is free to download. The only difference is in game advertisements. Document sharing was also more user friendly with Android phones. These phones allowed more document formats to be transferred from app to app while IPhones were very restrictive with what you could move and send.Because of more powerful phones, greater variety of models, social networking, user friendly interfaces, and the cost of phones; The Android operating system is recommended.
