Create a Presentation

Get to Know Microsoft PowerPoint

1. Start Microsoft PowerPoint.

2. When PowerPoint opens, your screen will look like this:

3. Click the space marked Click to add title, and type your name.

4. Click in the space marked Click to add subtitle, and type the name of your class.

5. On the Home tab, click the New Slide button. A new slide appears.

6. Click in the space marked Click to add title, and type My Hobbies.

7. Click in the space marked Click to add text, and type three of your favorite hobbies. Press Enter between items on the list

8. Click the Microsoft Office Button and choose Save As.

9. Save your presentation to My Documents as Your Name Hobbies.

10. Click the Office Button, and then click Close to close your presentation. Do not exit PowerPoint.

Explore PowerPoint Views

1. Open the Data File named 7A Road Rally. It is located on the Desktop in Unit 7.

2. In the upper-left corner of the workspace, click the Outline tab. The left side of the screen shows the presentation in out line form (see below).

3. Click the Slides tab. Slides view allows you to see the layout of each slide.

4. On the status bar, click the Slide Sorter button.

5. Click Slide 3 and drag it in front of Slide 5. Note that a vertical like shows the place where you are moving the slide.

6. Release the mouse button. The slides are renumbered and Slide 3 becomes Slide 4. Your screen will not look like this:

7. Click Slide 1.

8. On the status bar, click the Slide Show button. The slide will fill the screen.

9. To move to the next slide, press the Enter key on your keyboard.

10. To end the show and return to Slide Sorter view, press Esc.

11. On the Ribbon, on the View tab, in the Presentation Views group, click the Slide Master View button. Review the items on the Slide Master tab and notice the slide placeholders.

12. On the Ribbon, click the Close Master View button X.

13. Click the Microsoft Office Button, then click Save As.

14. Save your presentation to My Documents with the name Your Name Road Rally.

Apply a Theme

1. In your Road Rally presentation, click the Normal view button on the status bar.

2. Click Slide 1.

3. Click the Design tab, then click the More button in the Themes group. The Theme gallery displays.

4. Point to a thumbnail in the gallery to preview a theme. Click the select the Metro theme.

5. On the Design tab, in the Themes group, click the More button.

6. Point to the Apex theme, and notice the Live Preview.

7. Point to and select the Module theme.

8. On the Design tab, in the Background group, click the Background Styles button. Select Style 6.

9. The theme is applied to all your slides (see below.)

10. Save your presentation.

11. Switch to Slide Show to view each slide.

Modify the Slide Master

1. In your Road Rally presentation, on the View tab, in the Presentation Views group, click the Slide Master button.

2. On the Insert tab, in the Text group, click the Date & Time button.

3. In the Header and Footer dialog box, select the Date and Time check box, and select the Fixed option, then type today’s date in the box below Fixed. (see below).

4. Click the Footer check box.

5. Type your name in the Footer text box, and select the Don’t show on the title slide check box. Then click Apply to All.

6. Click the Slide Master tab. Click the Module Slide Master thumbnail. In the Background group, click the Format Background Dialog Box Launcher. Select the Solid fill option. Click the Color drop-down arrow, and select Orange. Click Apply to All. Click Close.

7. Click the Title Slide Layout thumbnail in the left pane, and select the horizontal line separating the black and orange colors on the slide. On the Drawing Tools Format tab, in the Shape Styles group, change the Shape Fill and the Shape Outline to red.

8. Click the Master Title Slide Layout thumbnail, and change the color of the horizontal line to red.

9. Click the Slide Master tab, and click the Close Master View button.

10. Save the presentation. Notice that the footer displays on every slide in the presentation except the title slide.

Navigate Through your Slides

1. Click Slide 1 of your Road Rally presentation, and select the text that begins “The game.” Change the Font Color to Black and the Font Size to 28. Apply Bold formatting.

2. Click the Slide Show button on the status bar to begin the slide show.

3. Click your mouse or press Enter to advance to the next slide.

4. Press to go to the previous slide.

5. While you are viewing the slide show, right-click on a slide to display the shortcut menu.

6. Click Next. This will take you to the next slide.

7. Display the shortcut menu, and click Previous to go back to Slide 1.

8. Display the shortcut menu, click Go to Slide, and click Slide 3 How to Win.

9. Open the shortcut menu, click End Show. You will be returned to Normal view.

10. Save and Close your Road Rally presentation.
