Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the USB host-to-host data bridge device (the product). This manual explains how to use the EasyCopy-Net software bundled with this device.

Safety Precautions

Please follow the safety precautions carefully before you use this product and the application software ( EasyCopy-Net ). Make sure that you use the product correctly according to the procedures described in this guide.

Warnings This mark indicates topics that could lead to serious injury of your body or damage to the Product if ignored or handled incorrectly.

Warnings

• Do not attempt to disassemble or alter any part of the product that is not described in this guide.

• Do not allow the product to come into contact with water or other liquids. In the event that water or other liquids enter the interior, immediately unplug the product from the computer. Continued use of the product may result in fire or electrical shock. Please consult your product distributor or the closest support center.

• Do not handle the product to do the plug and unplug operation if your hands are wet. Otherwise it will cause electrical shock.

• Do not place the product near a heat source or expose them to direct flame or heat.

• Never place the product close to equipment generating strong electromagnetic fields. Exposure to strong magnetic fields may cause malfunctions or corrupt data.

System Requirements

There are basic hardware and software requirements that must be satisfied to ensure the product to function properly.

• Computer Model IBM PC/AT Compatible

• OS Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Millennium Edition (Windows ME), Windows 2000, Windows XP

• Interface USB

➢ Windows 98 SE does not support default Mass Storage Driver. You have to install the driver bundled with the product.

➢ The product can use the default driver in most of the OS.

➢ The application software only can run with Microsoft Windows OS.

Basic Functions

1. Plug and Play

You need two computers to use this product. There are two USB connectors on both ends of this product. When you connect one of the two connectors to a USB port of one of the two computers, you will see a “Removable Disk” icon in the file manager window. Then, connect the other connector to a USB port of the other computer, you will also see a “Removable Disk” icon in the file manager window.

Warning When you plug the USB host-to-host data bridge device into PC with the other site had connected to PC , if the system display a Message of “Unknown USB device” as below when both both ends of the product are connected to a computer , you need to disconnect both ends , and reconnect.

2. Data Transfer

You can retrieve or store files between the two host systems through the EasyCopy-Net application software. The read/write operations are the same as those of a hard disk.

3. Unplug

You can remove the product after you finish using the product. However, on Windows ME and Windows 2000, please follow the safe removal procedure or else a warning message will be displayed as below.

You can find a safe removal icon in your computer’s notification area.

Double click the “safe removal” icon; the “Unplug or Eject Hardware” window will pop up. You can select the device you want to remove. Then, click the “Stop” button. After that you can unplug the device from the USB port of your computer.

4. Network.

This product supports peer-to-peer networking functions, after both hosts are switched to the Network mode. With proper setting , users can access the Internet/Intranet via the other host which is connected to an office or home network

Using the EasyCopy-Net

On the Windows Platform

Installing/Uninstalling the Application Software:

There is no need to install any driver and application software on Microsoft’s Windows ME, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. If you are using Windows 98, please install the Mass Storage driver first.

Installing the USB Driver in Windows 98:

For some Windows systems, users should log on as the Administrator before installation. After you connect the USB host-to-host data bridge device to your computer, the “Add New Hardware Wizard” dialog will appear after a moment. Please click the “Cancel” button to close the wizard dialog window. Please find the “EasyCopy-NetWin98Driver.exe” from the CD-ROM or floppy. Double click on the “EasyCopy-NetWin98Driver.exe” program to do the driver installation. Some operating systems, such as Windows 98 SE, require you to unplug the device and plug again in order to use the correct driver.

Using EasyCN.exe Program:

Warning EasyCopy-Net can only support one USB host-to-host data bridge device each time. If you plug in two devices at the same time, the EasyCopy-Net program will handle only one of them. The other one will be ignored.

After you connect the USB host-to-host data bridge device to two computers, double click on the “Removable Disk” in the file manager window. Then, you will see the “EasyCN.exe” program.

Double click on the “EasyCN.exe” program, you will see a file manager window shown as below.

This program must be executed on two computers connected by the product. The programs on these two computers will communicate with each other.

If you execute the “EasyCN.exe” program on just one computer, the above file manager window will pop up. Only “Local Host” will be shown. With two computers (A & B), you can connect them using the product. From the viewpoint of computer A, the “Local Host” is computer A and the “Remote Host” is computer B. From the viewpoint of computer B, the “Local Host” is computer B and the “Remote Host” is computer A.

If you execute the program on both systems, the connection will be built up automatically. The following figure shows the file manager window after the connection.

b. Local Host: It’s File-Explorer-like, showing the local host site file system from the root in Desk Top. It also supports multiple selections, Drag & Drop for copy operation, auto-expanding folder tree. , and network neighbor browse.

Operation

You can click the “Right Bottom” on the item which you want to do “operation”. The operation menu will be displayed. You can choose the operation you want.

a. Remote Connect

b. Open Remote Folder

c. Select Remote Copy Items

d. Select Local Copy Destination.

e. Copy Progress Information

f. Local Destination Folder Content refresh

The remote site will activate this message to notify user of on-going data transfer.

2. Delete Confirm:

a. Select Item.

b. Choose “Delete” function

c. Confirm massage

d. [OK] or [Cancel] button

3. Upload Operation :

a. Remote Connect (make sure the Read Only option on the remote site has been disabled)

b. Open Local Folder

c. Select Local Copy Items

d. Select Remote Copy Destination

e. Copy Progress Info

f. Remote Destination Folder Content refresh.

4. Read Only Protection: Protect the data or files of local site from being deleted or modified.

Click the tool bar “Read Only Protection”

The following massage will be displayed; you can select the “Share as Read Only” option, then click the [OK] button.

When you do the “delete” operation on the remote site, the message will be displayed.

5. Network Mode:

Conceptually , EasyCopy-Net acts as the network connection between the two computers , and supports peer-to-peer communication .

If Computer A has the capacity of network routing , then Computer B can be connected to the network through Computer A .

Win XP and Win 2000 have this Network Routing function inside .

If the OS of Computer A is WinXP or Win2000, EasyCopy-Net will implement a tool for network routing setting.

Below is these procedures for Network Mode .

You can switch to Network Mode by click menu item [System] -> [Network Switch].

How to visit Windows 2000 / Windows xp from the other operating system

Preface :  all the settings on the computers' workgroup must be same . [pic]

1. Windows 2000 ( All the computers must be installed NetBEUI protocol )

Firstly you need to set up an User name in the Windows 2000 for the other operating system and share one of the disk or printer , you may not set up any password ; and also you need to set up the same User Name in the other operating system . You just need to start-up the both computers with the same User Name , and they can inter-access and share information .

 

2. Windows xp ( All the computers must be installed NetBEUI protocol )

Firstly you need to set up an User name in the Windows xp for the other operating system and share one of the disk or printer , you may not set up any password ; then click '' start '' —> '' control panel '' —> '' Management tool '' —> '' Local security setting '' —> '' Local policy '' —> '' User right assignment '' , please delete GUEST user from '' Reject accessing this computer from network '' ;  and also you need to set up the same User Name in the other operating system . You just need to start-up the both computers with the same User Name , and they can inter-access and share information .

 NetBEUI:(Windows xp)

This protocol is always set under the file of system installation icon E:\VALUEADD\MSFT\NET\NETBEUI

( E: disk icon )

 

NetBEUI (NBF) is a non-routable protocol suitable for small networks.

Support for this protocol in Microsoft Windows has been discontinued.

If you are instructed by the Product Support Personnel to install this protocol

as a temporary measure, follow the instructions below.

Installation instructions for NetBEUI protocol on Windows XP and Windows 2002.

* copy nbf.sys into the Windows\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ directory

* copy netnbf.inf into the Windows\INF\ directory

* open network connection properties and use "Install..." button to add NetBEUI protocol

Notes : If your operating system has been upgraded as SP2 , you can not find the Windows xp computer and common files  in the Local Area Netwrok even though you did everything according to the above steps . You must  input the other computer's IP address ( the other computer must have been set up an IP address ) from '' start ''     —>  '' Run '', then you can access the other computer .
