How to install PCI ICOM card in Windows XP?

Following is the brief instructions that show how to change the COM port number (Mostly start from COM3) under Windows 2000. Note: Windows 98/NT don't have problem with the latest PCI ICOM driver.

1. First of all, you would need the PCI ICOM XP driver, install the driver WITHOUT the PCI ICOM card in the system.

2. After installation turn off the system and install the PCI ICOM card, turn on the system and Windows 2000 device manager should detect the Advantech PCI ICOM card(s) and start installing the drivers.

3. After finish you go to Device Manager and check under the Ports (COM & LPT)

4. If the Advantech PCI Serial Port is not attach to the COM port you want, then go to the properties of the COM port and observe the settings.

Note: Device\Oxser0 correspondence to Advantech COM port #1, Device\Oxser1 correspondence to Advantech COM port#2, and so fort...

5. Supposedly you would like to install COM3, 4, 5, and 6. Then you go to COM5 and select COM3 from the drop down list. Click OK.

6. The Device Manager will refresh due to hardware configuration changed and now you should be able to observe the existence of COM3.

7. Repeat step 5 and 6 for COM6, but select COM4 from the drop down list and click OK.

8. Now Device Manager will refresh due to hardware configuration changed and now you should be able to observe the existence of COM4.

9. Repeat step 5 and 6 for any other COM port you want to make changed to.

10. After finished check the configuration to make everything is configured properly. COM3 should attach to Device\Oxser0, COM4 should attach to Device\Oxser1 and so fort...

11. Now close down all the windows and go to COM Examine Tool under Advantech PCI ICOM tools v 1.2 folder.

12. Add the 4 COM ports you just install and configured, you should see all the COM port tabs should have the tools like shown in

13. Now click on All Ports Run button in the toolbars and observe the RED LEDs on the Advantech PCI ICOM card is on.

14. If you have a loop back connector and you will observe which port is running and the transmission speed.
