A separate fund of ?120,000 will also be provided for councils that have clear plans on how they will support people who need the most help in keeping warm this winter. deal ‘would have saved millions’Lancashire County Council’s former Conservative leader has defended a scrapped community alarm contract, saying it would have saved the authority “millions of pounds”. County Hall’s Labour administration pulled the plug on the deal in September, which would have seen telecare functions run by housing providers transferred to BT, the authority’s co-partner in One Connect Limited (OCL). It would have seen OCL work with a company called Tunstall Healthcare, which would provide new telecare equipment and a home response service, for example when a resident has an emergency like a fall. A council investigation published earlier this month found OCL intended to charge Lancashire County Council a 20 per cent mark-up on prices agreed with Tunstall, which would have cost taxpayers ?1.4m. turn on party leaderConservative members of Lancashire County Council have “serious concerns” about decisions made by their leader while in charge of the county hall, it has been claimed. And the concerns, which arose after it was revealed a telecare deal signed by party leader Councillor Geoff Driver would have overcharged the council by ?1.4m, could even lead to a vote of no confidence, it has been suggested. Coun Driver signed the deal with One Connect three days before the election in May which the Tories lost. The contract has now been cancelled by the ruling Labour administration. rail work over ChristmasMajor improvement works will close Manchester Victoria over Christmas, as Network Rail delivers the next stage of its plan to electrify the railway throughout Manchester and the North West. Lewis Turner, of the charity Lancashire LGBT, said police marking the day helped highlight the issue of transphobia. He said: “We meet trans children, young people and adults who share with us experiences past or present of hostility, discrimination, abuse and, sometimes, violence. Thankfully, many have survived these experiences to become confident, happy and fulfilled people who participate in, and contribute to, the community. However, many trans voices have been silenced through hatred, violence and despair, and we would urge trans people to report any transphobic hate incidents.” Hate crime can be reported via the True Vision website at? by calling police on 101.Alternatively you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111For more information on the work of Lancashire LGBT, visit? this week.?HealthHIV Testing week- 22 - 29 November 2013?In readiness for HIV Testing week please find attached a copy of a campaign poster with details of testing venues across Lancashire.Poster.
