Abstract

This is a guide for school technicians detailing the process of setting up the VCAA Assessment Online Virtual Machine. This Virtual Machine (VM) is a pre-configured server with the Assessment Online software installed and ready for activation. It is designed to simplify the installation on a standalone or existing server. This VM is entirely self contained and requires no additional software other than Microsoft Hyper-V.

Note before Installing

Please note that if you are not going to install this on a new server, but rather over the top of the existing server, then you will need to copy a database backup file from the current VM E drive before the migration.

Backups are stored in the VM under E:\Backup\Aim

Please make a copy of the most recent full backup file before proceeding.

It is also advised not to delete the existing VM disk files until you are finish migration and are satisfied that the new install is working.

Import VM into Hyper-V

Copy the VM files on to the Hyper-V hosts local storage

Open Hyper V Manager

Click Browse

Locate the folder for the VM that you copied to the local storage of the Hyper V server earlier

Note that the File Open dialog shown is from the perspective of the Hyper V server. The C drive listed is the servers C drive, not your PCs local C drive.

Tick “Move or restore the virtual machine” and then click Import

You will receive warnings on import. This is normal and is related to the network card in the Hyper V server now being the same as the server used to build the base image.

Right-click the newly imported VM and click Settings

[pic]

Locate the Network Card in the hardware list on the right. Click on it. Then in the drop-down box over to the right select the server network card that you are connecting the new VM through

If you wish you may rename the VM at this stage

Click OK to dismiss the settings window.

Power on the VM (Start) and connect the remote console (Connect…)

Migrate database from previous On Demand server

Copy backup file from existing On Demand server E drive

Open Windows Explorer and browse to the E drive administrative share. It will look like \\SERVER IP HERE\e$\

From here browse to the Backup folder and then the AIM folder. Take the most recent .BAK file available and copy it.

Paste backup file on local server E drive

Browse now to the local server E:\DatabaseUpgrader\ and paste the copied backup file in here amongst the other existing files.

Run the Database Upgrader tool

Double click the DatabaseUpgrader.exe tool and when it opens click the “Update Database” button.

Upon success you should receive the following message.

[pic]

Click on Transfer File.

This is to verify that SSL traffic works ok.
