Game not displaying properly

Q: Some game screens are not fully displayed; part of the screen is off the display.

A: Some games use an interface that is optimized for a monitor display of 1024x768 (minimum). If you are using a Netbook, you will have this problem with many games. Unfortunately there is no workaround to correct this.

DVD is not responding

Q: After inserting the DVD, nothing happens. Using Windows 8 operating system.

A: Windows 8 can be a little tricky when it comes to installing from a CD/DVD. If you have AutoPlay turned on, there should be a notification box that appears in the upper right corner of your monitor that tells you to tap to choose what happens with this disc. This appears only for a few seconds, so you need to tap it quickly.

Once you tap it, you will get a notification box, like this: (your letter drive could differ from this image)

Click Run setup.exe and the game install will begin. Just follow the prompts for successful installation.

If you don’t have AutoPlay turned on (and you do not get the notification boxes illustrated above), you need to change the settings to make it easy to install games from CD/DVD.

To get into the AutoPlay settings, follow these steps:

1. Press the “Windows Logo” + “W” key on your keyboard to display the “Settings” search bar.

2. Type “AutoPlay” in the search back and press enter.

3. In the “AutoPlay” window, click on the check box that says “Use AutoPlay for all media devices” at the top of the window to select it.

Your PC should now AutoPlay any CD or DVD you insert and you can follow the install directions prompted by Windows 8.

No CD/DVD drive

Q: CD or DVD drives are required to install the programs from a disc. If your computer doesn’t have an internal drive, you can connect an external drive to install the programs.

Optionally, if you have another computer with a CD or DVD drive you can install the programs to an external drive and then plug that drive into the computer that doesn’t have a CD or DVD player.

Stolen Beauty game question

Q: I cannot find out how to fix the electrical wire for the air conditioner in the main character's sister's apartment in the Stolen Beauty game.

A: Since these are interactive hidden object adventure games, sometimes you have to take multiple steps to figure an item or task out.

For this particular task, you have to turn the electricity on by going to the power panel at the back of the room. You also have to find tape and a cellphone. You then go back to the power panel and shut off the electric.

Using the cellphone, you light up the area where the wire needs to be repaired and use the tape to fix the wire. Then go back to the power panel and turn on the electric. Use the remote control to turn on the air conditioner.

Mahjongg Legends of the Tiles scores lost

Q: After re-installing Mahjongg Legends of the Tiles on a new computer, all my previous scores are gone. Is it possible to retrieve them? Windows 8.1.

A: Unfortunately, unless you were able to back-up your old computer containing the data files from Mahjongg, the scores are lost. Nothing saves to the original installation disc.

Silent Scream game question

Q: There is a really hard puzzle in Silent Scream in which the lady is asleep in the daycare. How can I solve it?

A: The object of this mini-game is to get the day care record book without waking the woman. You have to slowly drag the items out of the way in order to grab the day care record book. Watch the meter on the left, because if it gets to red, you have to start over. The key to this puzzle is making sure you don’t move too fast. You can always skip the puzzle when the timer at the top of the screen allows.

Mystic Gallery game question

Q: In Mystic Gallery, I can’t find the flute in the village scene. How can I move on?

A: The tools in Mystic Gallery are found on the left side of the playing area. The 2nd tool on left side at top is the magnifying glass that you can use to comb over the image in greater detail. The hint feature is actually the 3rd icon (it looks like a color wheel) and it will highlight the image from the list. If you look closely, the flute is running along top of one of the buildings.

Nothing happens when the DVD is inserted into the drive.

Q: Nothing happens when the DVD is inserted into the drive.

A:  Windows 8.1 and 10 will prompt you for action when you insert a DVD but the prompt (at the bottom right of the screen) appears and disappears quickly).   If you do not see the prompt, you will need to manually start the installer, as follows:

Right Click on the Windows icon on the lower left corner of your monitor and select RUN.    Type in E:\Setup (if E: is your DVD drive).   Then, simply follow the prompts to continue installation.

Some Games Not Working

QUESTION: Some of the games in the game collection do not load or don’t install correctly.

ANSWER:   Possible anti-virus or anti-spyware software conflict.

You might get an error message when this happens or the game may not launch with no error message.

If this happens, disable your anti-virus or anti-spyware (during installation only), install our game and then turn the anti-virus/anti-spyware software on again.

It is not uncommon for software installation programs to recommend that you turn off your anti-virus program, as well as anti-spyware programs before the install to avoid "false positives" that might cause a problem with the installation.

Background information. Here’s what’s happening:

When you run an install/setup program it may do many different things including:

Write program files into Windows folders

Write entries into the Windows registry

Add "auto-start" entries that launch programs whenever you boot your computer or login

Start, stop or install Windows services

Delete other files relating to the program being set up, typically older versions and more.

All of these are common and necessary to install games and utility software.

However, some anti-virus and anti-spyware scanners aren't always 100% accurate at telling the difference between a legitimate process and a not so legitimate process.   So occasionally, legitimate installs are flagged as suspicious, even when they are not.   ALL of our programs are scanned for viruses and spyware and tested before release.

If your anti-virus/anti-spyware program blocks or otherwise interferes with a program installation, you may end up with a failed install. Or something that looks like a "successful" install that doesn't work properly.

And to be clear, only turn off the anti-virus and anti-spam software for the duration of the installation process. Be sure to turn it back on when the installation is complete, or the PC will be unprotected from then on.
