24th Annual Conference on

Problem Gambling Prevention, Research,

Recovery & Treatment

Call for Presentations and Workshops

The 2010 Program Committee calls on advocates, clinicians, researchers, gaming operators, regulators and recovering gamblers to submit presentations for the 24th National Conference, June 9-12, 2010, in Portland, Oregon. The conference will include pre-conference workshops , plenary sessions, poster sessions, and breakout presentations. The submission deadline is Tuesday, January 16, 2010.

General Information:

▪ Presentations should reflect new and original work.

▪ Presentations are 45, 60 or 90-minutes in length, panels are 60 or 90 minutes, poster sessions are 30 minutes.

▪ Pre-conference workshops are half day, full day or two days.

▪ Content must relate to prevention and/or treatment of problem gambling, for gamblers, families, employers or jurisdictional entities.

▪ All materials must be submitted electronically. Notification of proposal selection will be made by Monday, March 1, 2010.

▪ Electronic copies of PowerPoint presentations and handout materials must be received by Friday, April 9, 2010.

Proposals will be evaluated using the following criteria:

□ Relevance to Topic (problem gambling prevention, treatment, responsible gaming, research and recovery)

□ Relevance to Theme (Innovation, Integration & Implementation: new looks at existing models of treatment, new models, group work/dynamics, integrated services, high tech services, etc.);

□ Evidence based or best practices

□ Impact of Presentation (how it will enhance participant’ s knowledge and skill levels, practicality, adaptability);

□ Objectives (specific knowledge participants will gain, please highlight if presentation addresses culture, ethnicity, diversity, spirituality, rural issues, etc.);

□ Presenter(s) Profile (experience, availability, credentials, and requested stipend).

□ The Portland Hilton & Executive Tower is the headquarters hotel and provides world-class service located in the heart of downtown, steps away from Portland’s famous MAX light rail train transportation, no need to rent a car. The conference occurs during the annual Portland Rose Festival May 22 – June 14 including the Grand Floral Parade on June 13, and the Rose Cup Amateur Sports Car Races June 12 –14, a wonderful experience for those new to the city and those returning.

Visitors to Portland will also appreciate the combination of a progressive, sophisticated and happening city, with nature close at hand. Portland is a big city with a small town feel; cultured but natural; hip, yet unpretentious. Destinations accessible by light rail include Washington Park, the Oregon Zoo, the World Forestry Center, Children’s Discovery Museum, the famous Rose Gardens, and the Japanese Garden. Other options a short stroll or bus ride away include a lively downtown restaurant, club and music scene; the Portland Art Museum, the Chinese Classical Garden; the Portland Tram; the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (great for families), the Pearl District couture arts and cultural district; Powell’s Books (covering an entire square block with hundreds of thousands of books, music, etc.), the 35 year old Portland Saturday Market located in Waterfront Park, and nationally recognized music, theater and dance companies including Oregon Ballet Theater, Artists Repertory Theater, Oregon Symphony, Portland Opera, Portland Taiko, Portland Center Stage, and many more.

When visitors choose to extend their stay, many tours or trips are within two hours drive of Portland including: the Oregon Coast – 362 miles of public beaches; the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area; Mt.
