The Windows 8 operating systems, by design, have “Class drivers” built-in to the OS. This is Microsoft’s® method of reducing the footprint of the Windows 8 operation systems. Further, Windows 8 functionality is such that when a device is connected via Plug ‘N Play, Windows 8 will automatically associate one of these built-in Class drivers with the device. In the case of the OKI MB4x1MFP device, Windows 8 will automatically associate and install the “OKI PCL6 Class driver” with the device.

This is the normal operation of Windows 8 and it works fine for single-function devices, but can present issues to users of Multi-Function devices, under Windows 8. Therefore, under Windows 8, if you plan on installing your OKI MB4x1MFP USB attached, it is our recommendation that users install the OKI MB4x1MFP software, first, before connecting the device to the Windows 8 PC.

If you have already connected your OKI MB4x1MFP, USB attached, to your Windows 8 machine, please follow the steps below, to re-configure your OKI MB4x1MFP installation.

If you have not USB connected your OKI MB4x1MFP as yet, insert and install the OKI software according to the instructions in Quick Setup guide.

Figures 1, 2 and 3 show the dialogs that display when the OKI MB4x1MFP is USB attached to any Windows 8 machine prior to installing the OKI software. As mentioned above, Windows 8 will automatically associate and install the “OKI PCL6 Class driver” with the device.

At this point, the user can print to the OKI MB4x1MFP, however, there is an issue with the installation for this device. The issue is indicated by the yellow "troubleshooting icon" seen in Figure 3.

If the user were to follow thru with the troubleshooting they would find out that the troubleshooting icon indicates that no scanner driver has been installed for the OKI MB4x1MFP, seen in Figure 5.

Figure 10 shows the dialog presented to the user as the OKI MB4x1MFP software is being installed. At this point, the components that were selected for installation in Figure 8, have been installed. This dialog asks the user to select the desired connection path, either USB or Network attached. If your OKI MB4x1MFP will be USB attached, and the device has already been USB connected, prior to installing the OKI software, we recommend that the user press the "Install using another port" button, as seen in Figure 10.

Note: The message shown below in Figure 11 will appear normally due to a timeout that is associated with the dialog in Figure 10. If in Figure 10, the user does not respond in time or the device is either Off-Line or in Power Save mode, Figure 11 may be displayed. The user should be directed to make sure the device is On-Line and not in Power Save mode. If the message is displayed the user should press "Yes" to continue with the installation.
