Graduation Speech

Graduation Speech

Eighth Grade Writing Assignment

The two winning speeches will be read at the Graduation.

One will be read as an Opening Theme after all of the graduates process into the Church.

The second speech will be read after the Mass is over before the diplomas are given out. This is considered a Final Farewell speech from the Class of 2013.

There are small differences with both speeches.

The Opening Theme speech should set the tone for the Mass and the entire evening. It should explain why we are all gathered together in the church for this special night. It should have a slightly religious tone to it because it is the opening of the Mass, however it can have the Class of 2013 be the focus as well.

The Final Farewell is done later on in the evening before the diplomas are given out. It should talk about fond memories; mention possible special Thank you’s and other things that you feel are important to add into it.

Everyone must turn in a speech.

It is mandatory!

You need to mention which speech you are writing.

You will need to tell me ahead of time so that both speeches are covered as equally as possible.

Winners are selected in a two-tiered process: Mr. Nogowski and Mrs. O’Brien will read and decide the top six speeches: three for each category. The top six speeches are then given out to Mrs. Slomiany and other various teachers throughout the building.

Go on-line and find an inspirational quote that means something special to you. Make sure that you include the quote and the famous person who said it in your speech. Also too compare your journey through SKD this year and your past years at Assumption and St. Bede to an object of your choice.

Please take time on this assignment and make sure that what you turn in as your final draft was writing completely by you.

This paper needs to be turned into me by this coming Monday.

After you are done writing your speech, please add on an additional page on the back of it with your name and your homeroom on it. Do not put your name and information at the top of the first page, or mention yourself directly within the speech itself. Once all speeches have been graded by me, they will be coded and given out to the rest of the faculty anonymously.

Your speech should be about 1 ¼ to 1 ½ pages long. (max)

Double spaced!
