Christmas 2020 in Class OneChristmas is going to be very different for us all this year. However, we are determined that our children in Class One and especially our new children enjoy the festive season at school and are able to experience some of the fun of previous years! Our classroom will have a Santa’s grotto for the children to play in and a Christmas tree to decorate. We will be learning Makaton advent signs each day and these will be uploaded onto our Makaton page on the school website. (Please find this under the school heading on the home page.) During weeks 6 and 7 lots of our play based activities will have a Christmas focus and the children will be making cards and decorations that they can bring home (after an appropriate quarantine period).Christmas Performance Unfortunately, we are unable to put on a Nativity play this year but we are going to record ‘A Winter Wonderland’ for you to purchase and enjoy. Please do not send any costumes or clothing into school, we are only asking that the children come to school wearing a Christmas jumper and warm clothes on Wednesday 9th December. Due to COVID restrictions we are unable to sing (at full volume) in the classroom so the recording will take place outside. The proposed date is 9th December, hopefully the weather will be kind to us and stay dry (ish). If not we will try to reschedule another day for filming.Christmas PartyClass One’s Christmas party will be on the afternoon of Thursday 17th December. We will make this as fun as possible for the children and we are carefully thinking of ‘Covid safe’ party games we can play. To avoid lots of items being brought into school from different households we are asking this year for a ?1 donation. This will be used to purchase the food (pre-packaged only) and we will quarantine it for 72 hours beforehand. We are aware of any allergies and dietary requirements and will ensure all of the food purchased can be given to all children. Please let us know if your child’s dietary requirements have changed and we may not be aware of them. The children will still have their school lunch, we will only provide party food. The children may come to school dressed in their party clothes on this day. Please make sure that these clothes are warm and appropriate for playing as the children will still be accessing all of our outdoor provision.Christmas Jumper DayThis will now take place on Thursday 10th December and will coincide with the serving of the school Christmas dinner. Christmas PantomimeThis year we will be watching a pre-recorded version of the pantomime Cinderella. We will show this to Class One on Wednesday 16th December. Our PTA are providing a small snack for the children to enjoy. We understand that for some children pantomimes can be a bit overwhelming and there will still be opportunities to play if they prefer. Christmas cardsPlease do not send Christmas cards into school for the children to hand to their friends. Again this would involve lots of items in school from multiple households, and is not supported in our risk assessment. Our PTA will be providing a large card for all children to sign and put up in the classroom. Finally, just a reminder to say that we finish school for the Christmas holidays on Friday 18th December and return on Tuesday 5th January. Monday the 4th is an Inset Day and school will be closed to the children. Please email either Vicky or myself if you have any questions or concerns about our Christmas urtis2@southwingfield.derbyshire.sch.ukvbarratt@southwingfield.derbyshire.sch.ukThank you for your continued support.Chloe and Vicky ................
