Principal's Report-Term 3

Welcome back to Term 3. I hope everyone had a relaxing and pleasant school holiday break. Term 3 is always an important part of the school year where a huge amount of teaching and learning takes place and great strides are taken in laying a solid basis for the year's work. We have a number of events and activities for students which are designed to develop and extend a range of skills and experiences. A feature will be the school camps and student leadership programs. Included in this will be the student leadership camp in China, the Year 10 ski camp, the Year 11 Melbourne camp and the Year 9 sailing camp. Year 10 and 11 students also have the work experience scheduled for the last week of this term. We also have a Youth Summit and a Respectful Relationships program scheduled for some students this term.

Year 9 Leadership Camp

Our four students involved in the Year 9 Leadership camp ? Jess, Denita, Tegan and Flynn ? have just completed their orientation program. They attended the leadership camp at Gnurad earlier this week to meet with other students joining the trip, to learn about all aspects of the forthcoming trip to China and to commence a range of leadership activities. The four depart for China on Saturday 12th August.

Five-Year Plan

In the previous school newsletter I outlined our School Council's five-year plan for the school environs. At our monthly meeting yesterday, Council continued with planning and detailing their vision for the next five years in a range of areas, including student voice, parent involvement, teaching and learning and programs. Councillors were involved in a planning process where all added ideas to a range of topics then identified the key priorities we need to focus on to deliver the vision. Discussions will continue over the coming months as we develop a unique story for the continued progress of our College.

Parents; Have Your Say

Each year we survey parents to get feedback on how well we are doing as a school in providing education for our students. This year the survey will be seeking your perceptions on school climate, student engagement and relationships with our parent community. We use the results of this confidential survey to help inform and direct future planning and improvement strategies. A significant change this year is that the surveys are done online rather than paper-based. Parents will be provided with a log-in which is used to access the survey for our school. The survey can be accessed via desk-top computer, laptop, tablet or mobile. If you don't have access to any of these, we will make a computer available for you at school. The survey is scheduled to be competed at your convenience between Monday 7th August and Sunday 27th August. Survey links will be distributed to you during 24th-31st July.

I encourage all parents to take a little time and complete the survey as the information is extremely important to us. It assists teachers and School Council to plan and organise as well as to improve aspects of our school. Students have already completed their survey and provided us with important feedback. I hope you can take a few minutes and help us as well.

Student Reports Student reports were distributed on the last day of term 2. If you have any queries regarding the information contained in the reports, please contact the teacher involved as soon as possible. We constantly review the process and effectiveness of our reporting processes. If you have any comments as to the quality, timing or process of our student reports, please phone, email or drop in and tell me over the next few weeks.

Every day counts

Going to school every day can lead to a bright, happy and successful future, not only for you but your

community.

An education allows you to pursue and conquer your goals.

LOST AND FOUND

The lost and found box is full.

Please check to see what is yours,

Every day Counts competition

Who will be the first class with enough 100% attendance to spell out the words `Perfect Attendance'? Which year levels will `Slam dunk their attendance'?

Individual students and year levels will be recognized weekly, monthly and at the end of term for their attendance with different competitions running this term encouraging the theme `Every day Counts'. Anyone can win. All the students need to do is come to school on time every day. All the parents need to do is encourage their children to be punctual and emphasize the importance of an education and school will acknowledge the students for their attendance. Don't forget if your child is unwell, they should stay home but when they return they need a note explaining why they were absent.

Keep an eye out for weekly results!
