Predictive Services Discussion:

A cold front will move through the eastern US today and tomorrow with heavy rain in south Texas, but scattered light to moderate precipitation for the rest of the US east of the Mississippi River, falling as snow north of the Ohio River and Mid-Atlantic. Breezy post-frontal northerly winds will develop over the Plains and Mississippi Valley into Saturday, but recent precipitation will mitigate fire potential. After some cooling through the weekend, above normal temperatures and dry conditions are forecast to return from the Plains to the East Coast much of next week, with the greatest warm anomalies in the northern and central Plains. Breezy southwest winds are likely early to mid-next week across the southern High Plains, with locally elevated conditions possible, while precipitation may return to portions of the Great Lakes and Ohio/Tennessee Valleys late next week.

Two weak atmospheric rivers are forecast to make landfall this weekend into mid-next week in California bringing widespread moderate to heavy precipitation to the state, falling as snow above 5,000 to 7,000 feet. Light to moderate precipitation will fall across the remainder of the West, except for much of the Southwest which will see little precipitation and breezy southwest winds. Temperatures across much of Alaska will remain above normal through much of next week, with periods of precipitation for western Alaska while much of central and eastern Alaska remains dry.
