The third grade Horticulture course uses the SE (Engage, Explore, Explain, Extend, & Evaluate) model of inquiry to engage students in investigations about the characteristics of plants that are inherited, and the characteristics that are influenced by environment. Students will also study in which

environments plants grow best.

The third grade Tech Wizards course focuses on the fundamentals of programming through a variety of labs, experiments, and activities. These activities will provide students real world experiences with identifying and understanding the basics of motion, energy, and the technology they interact with on a daily basis.

Inquiry Science - NEW!

INQUIRY SCIENCE

The third grade Inquiry Science course engages students in hands-on inquiry lessons that teach fundamental science and inquiry skills. Using engaging books, this course will engage students in the SE model of instruction to build both content knowledge and science and engineering practices.

Language Arts Mathematics Science

The fourth grade Horticulture course uses an inquiry-based approach to help students understand how the structure of a plant helps it to grow, survive, and reproduce. Students will engage in investigations of specific structures that support survival and build research skills through investigation of the mutual relationships between plants and pollinators. The course will culminate with students designing a pollinator garden by applying their knowledge of environment and environmental traits that help plants grow.

The fourth grade Tech Wizards course will expand on the fundamentals of programming through a variety of labs, experiments and activities. These activities will provide students real world experiences with identifying and understanding the basics of motion and energy through the creation and modification of unique designs.

Music Environmental Science - NEW!

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE

The fourth grade Environmental Science course uses an inquiry-based approach to help students understand how engineers use various tools to transform energy from the sun, wind, water and fossil fuels into usable energy (electricity). Students will build research skills through further investigation of the impacts that the use of energy and the devices used to harness this natural energy have on the environment. The course will culminate with a problem-based learning activity, during which students will collaborate to propose an alternative energy solution that could be implemented at their school.

The fifth grade Horticulture course will engage students using an inquiry-based approach to help students understand the importance of gardening and producing food. Students will engage in investigations about the classifications about fruits and vegetables grown around the world. Finally, students will apply their knowledge about plant growth and life cycles in order to help the school's community garden thrive; including planting and sprouting seeds, garden maintenance and composting to produce soil.

DIGITAL LITERACY

The fifth grade Digital Literacy course introduces keyboarding, hardware, software and digital citizenship through existing technologies like the Microsoft Suite, Infinite Campus, and 0365; to include acquiring assignments, turning in assignments, and working with peers in project groups.

The sixth grade STEM Art course focuses on how architectural designs are created to connect with their environment and to meet the needs of a specific audience. Students will imagine, design and create their own 30 building models. This will allow students to learn about the role of architecture in society and investigate famous buildings.

The seventh grade Future Problem Solving course will utilize a six-step problem solving process to investigate various futuristic scenarios and issues. Critical reading and writing skills will be honed through research and writing the Global Issues Solution document.

The eighth grade STEM Capstone course will explore areas of science focusing on the human impact that science has on the world. Students will participate in a culminating project in which they complete an in-depth analysis of an issue using research skills, public speaking skills and technology.

Algebra I Honors: Students will have the opportunity to earn high school credit with honors weighting. This course will be placed on the high school transcript.

Spanish I: Students will have the opportunity to earn high school credit. This course will be placed on the high school transcript.
