To implement, Minnesota Department of Human Services staff have been partnering and collaborating with county and tribal agency staff, providers, community agencies, parent and youth leaders, advocacy organizations, court personnel, and other state agency staff in preparation for the implementation of Family First Prevention Services Act by Sept. 30, 2021. As we look forward to implementation, this session will provide an overview of the Prevention Plan and residential services implementation, and provide an opportunity for conversation. Deborah Beske Brown is a foster care unit supervisor at the Child Safety and Permanency Division, Minnesota Department of Human Services. She has more than 30 years of child welfare services experience, primarily with foster care and adoption services. She offers her knowledge of child welfare services, including: county social service systems, state and federal laws, foster care funding and financial support, and best practices. Rebecca Wilcox is a safety and prevention unit manager at the Child Safety and Permanency Division, Minnesota Department of Human Services. She has 20 years of child welfare services experiences, primarily in upfront child protection practice, including prevention, early intervention, intake, screening, assessment and investigation. If they feel valued and appreciated, they are more likely to perform at higher levels. We believe we can increase the retention of our staff through consistent teambuilding. This is an interactive presentation where participants will not only discuss the importance of teambuilding but will participate in teambuilding activities to fully understand how the process works from beginning to end. It is in the interaction that they will learn about what they are looking for during teambuilding and how to debrief each part of the activity. All participants will walk away from the presentation with a book of teambuilding activities that they can take back to their Agency ready to use. Denise Dallas has a Bachelor’s of Social Work from Mansfield University. She has been working at Nexus Mille Lacs for over twenty-two years. Through the years she has worked in various positions and is currently the training coordinator. As the training coordinator she is tasked with training staff on how to work clinically with juvenile males who have harmful sexual behaviors and mental health issues. Denis has spoken nationally on various topics. She has also spoken at many conferences all over the state of Minnesota. Shon Morin has been working at Nexus Mille Lacs for over three years. Shon had never worked in this field before; he started as a Youth care professional and is currently serving as a Milieu Supervisor. As a Milieu Supervisor he teaches staff how to build relationships with the youth and bridge the gap between training and the interactions on the floor. Shon enjoys building relationships with the youth and seeing the process of change from when the youth first arrives to when they leave. He states that one of the most rewarding parts of his job is building strong relationships with the youth and giving them a little bit of hope. Shon prides himself in being transparent with his team and strongly believes that is key in being a strong leader in his role a milieu supervisor. Minnesota will implement Family First Prevention Services Act by Sept. 30, 2021. The department has developed licensing certification standards, and practice guidance. This session will provide information about residential services implementation, placement practices, including entering information into SSIS as a continuous placement. Ms. Halverson has over 30 years of experience in overseeing/or providing behavioral health services. Keith Koegler is a policy analyst for the Minnesota Department of Human Services Licensing Division. He previously worked as a licensor of mental health and substance use disorder treatment programs and children’s residential facilities. In 2016, Farji began designing The Next Step Program, a hospital-based violence intervention program for youth and young adults who are victims of significant violence. Farji is a Behavioral Health Specialist and has worked at HHS and is also currently working at Regions Hospital. She works as a childhood cancer advocate, raising awareness and funds for research. Laura is a down-to-earth speaker who imparts her wisdom with honesty and humor. Drawing on her experience of mothering a dying child, she shares the basic how-tos of keeping the chaos of life in perspective and living simply but with impact.?
