Students will explore concepts of revised history and culture from the Woman’s narrative, or in other words, Herstory. They will have opportunities to interact with relevant film, literature, articles and other media. To further support the teaching of essential knowledge and skills, the use of a variety of rich primary and secondary source material, such as biographies, autobiographies, landmark cases of the Supreme Court, novels, speeches, letters, diaries, poetry, songs and artworks are instrumental. This course will emphasize women in ancient to modern history, as well as looking at the societal lenses of women in politics, sports, movies and other medias.This is a Nine- Week Course, so it will go by quickly, and there will be no time for much error.District Grading Policy:Grading categories and weights are to be as follows:Tests/Major Projects: 40%We will test every three weeks, this is based on the lectures (notes, and assignments we do in class)Quizzes/ Homework/Daily Assignments: 60%We will have a variety of assignments and activities for each topic we learn in class. We will also complete mini projects throughout the term. These will count as daily grades.There will be articles/readings/passages/ given throughout the term that will count as homework grades. Throughout the term, students will work on mini projects based on the topic we are discussing. **Semester Exam grades will count as 20% of the final semester grade**The Final Exam Project will consist of a major project. More information will be given at week 7.Late Work/Missing WorkStudents have three days from the assignment due date to turn in work. Points may be deducted each day past the due date that an assignment is not turned in.Students will have opportunities to make up late assignments during tutoring.Because of the short time we have in this class will be no extra credit given, however if you turn in definitions of all the words on the vocabulary list, you will get extra points added to any low or missing daily or test grade at the end of the term. Week 2The student identifies major characteristics and historical points for Women in Modern World History. Such as European Suffragettes, and other contributions from women globally.Week 3The student explores developments in women’s rights globally, such as equality laws, abortion rights, etc. Weeks 4-6 will focus on Women from an American History perspectiveWeek 4The student describes the development of events related to the lives of women from Early colonialism to 1865) such as Salem Witch Trials.Week 5 The student explores historical points of references of Women in American History 1865- 1949. Such as women’s liberation movement, title xi, and Hilary Clinton.Weeks 7-9 will focus on Women in Society TodayWeek 7The Students will identify how women are seen in careers and politics, such as the glass ceiling, pay inequality, and jobs then and now. Looking at the changing roles women in Hollywood, key women trailblazers in sports, and movies. Week 9The students will analyze women in society, through special topics like (student choice discussions) child brides, domestic violence, menstruation, rape, abortion.Students will work on their projects Creating a book of one or more topics that effect women, or create a book on a woman of their choice. ONE, 100-page composition notebook, or TWO, 70-page spiral notebook are also required for the course. Electronics Policy:For safety purposes, the district permits students to possess personal mobile telephones and other electronic devices. However, these devices must remain turned off during the instructional day unless they are being used for approved instructional purposes.
