NORTH GREENWICH BOWLS CLUB

Rules and Club Constitution effective from 1st May 2013 inclusive

1) THE CLUB

(a) The Club shall be known as the NORTH GREENWICH BOWLS CLUB.

2) OBJECTIVES

(a) The Club shall play the game of bowls under the rules of the English Bowls Association.

3) MEMBERSHIP

(a) Full membership can be granted at any time, subject to payment of the appropriate fees in full,

for a year or any part of a year.

Associate Membership can be granted at any time, subject to payment of the appropriate fee in

full, for a year or any part of a year.

(b) Persons applying for membership must apply on the club application form to the management

committee.

(c) The annual subscription for members is to be paid at the Annual General Meeting.

Any member not paying the annual subscription at the Annual General Meeting, will be denied

all voting rights until the subscription is paid in full. All subscriptions not paid at the Annual

General Meeting must be received by the Hon. Treasurer within 28 days of the Annual General

Meeting or their membership will cease.

(d) The annual subscription shall be £15 which is to be reviewed at each Annual General Meeting.

All new members are required to pay a one off, joining fee of £25.

(e) All members who wish to continue membership but are unable to attend an Annual General

Meeting must contact the Hon. Secretary, subject to the time span as per 3 (c) above, informing

him/her that they wish to continue membership of the club for the forthcoming season.

(f) Full membership is available to ladies with full club rights. However the club is not responsible

for any exclusion by outside bodies.

(g) Associate Membership shall be open to all on payment of a £5 fee. This fee is to be reviewed at

each year at the Annual General Meeting. Associate Members are not allowed to take part in any

competitions, but may play in friendly matches if required to do so. They are not allowed to hold

any office or cast any votes, or voice their opinons at any meetings.

(h) Members may be required to attend Management Committee meetings to deal or assist on any

item, but must leave the meeting as soon as that item is discharged.

4) OFFICERS OF THE CLUB

(a) The Club shall form a management committee consisting of the following

Officers:

The member holding the post of President shall do so until he/she wishes to retire. All other Officers are to be elected annually at the Annual General Meeting.

(b) The Management Committee shall be requested to meet at the Committee’s discretion to

conduct the Club’s business.

(c) Management Committee members absent for four consecutive meetings, shall have their

positions on the committee declared vacant and be replaced. Except where sickness has

prevented their attendance.

(d) If an Officer holds more than one job, another full member is to be elected to the vacant

position to bring the committee up to strength.

5) MANAGEMENT

(a) The Club monies shall be banked in a General Fund at the National Westminster Bank plc. The

monies in the fund shall be used by the Management Committee for the Club’s expenses or

benefit. The President, Hon. Treasurer, Hon. Secretary plus one other person elected at the

Annual General Meeting shall be Trustees.

(b) The Club books and accounts shall be audited annually, by the Auditors elected at each

Annual General Meeting.

(c) Minutes of all meetings shall be taken by the Hon Secretary or another Management Committee

member, if the Hon. Secretary is absent. These minutes should be agreed at the next appropriate

meeting, and kept as a permanent record.

(d) The Management Committee shall reserve the right, to take disciplinary action against any

member, should the need arise.

(e) Propositions for Rule changes or amendments to be submitted in writing to the Hon. Secretary,

who shall call a general meeting within 30 days to discuss and vote on such propositions.

(f) Management Committee shall have the right to replace any Committee position that becomes

vacant during the year, with another Full Club Member.

6) ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

(a) The Club is to hold an Annual General Meeting every October on a date specified by the

Management Committee.

(b) No meeting shall commence without a quorum present as follows:

This rule does not apply to the Selection Committee.

(c) The date for the Club’s Finals Day is to be decided by the Match Secretary.

7) GENERAL MEETINGS

(a) General meetings will be to held on the 1st Tuesday of the month during the playing season i.e.

April to September, and then as required.

(b) Seasons Tickets are to be paid for in full at the first General Meeting once they are made

available by the local Council.

8) PLAYERS STATUS AND INVOLVEMENT

(a) The Club Uniform will consist of:

Male: Dark Blue Jacket with Club Badge on breast pocket, White shirt,

Club tie, Grey trousers, Black or Brown shoes.

Female: Dark Blue Jacket with Club Badge on breast pocket, White blouse,

Club scarf, Grey skirt, Black or Brown shoes.

(Club bowling hat is optional).

The full Club uniform should be worn to all Club and League matches. Then players should change into Club match shirts or blouses to play the match.

Some exceptions will be made for mid week games for members travelling direct

from their place of work.

(b) Members must place their names on the match lists in the Club Room, for matches which they

wish to play in. These lists will close at 7pm on Tuesdays and the Captain and Vice captain will

pick the teams to play for that week.

(c) All weekend games including Club competitions are to be played in Whites and Club Match

Shirts. All playing members and reserves are to turn up at games in the Club uniform.

All roll ups both weekdays and weekends are to be played in, Greys and White tops.

All members attending Finals Day and special functions are required to wear full Club uniform.

(d) Members selected to play in games are to be at the Green 15 minutes prior to Official start time.

If this is not so then the Captain (or acting Captain for the day) will substitute that member with

a reserve.

9) DISPUTES

(a) Any grievance, other than catered for below, must be put in writing to the Hon. Secretary. If the

Management Committee are agreeable the person or persons involved will be given a hearing to

try to resolve the matter.

(b) Any grievance regarding team selection, are to be made in writing to the Club Captain.

10) AVAILABILTY TO PLAY

(a) All members shall make themselves available to play for a minimum of six games per season, to

be entitled to be Given a free Club Match shirt.

11) PAYMENT OF FEES FOR OUTSIDE COMPETITIONS

(a) All members taking part in outside competitions, will be required to pay all Entrance fees prior

to the start of said competitions. The fees should be paid in good time, so as to allow the Club to

forward, such fees to the outside organisations.

(b) Any member who has not paid their fees for outside competitions, will be ineligible to play in

said competitions and this will be reported to the appropriate Association concerned.

12) CLUB FIXTURE LIST

Any changes to Club fixtures are to be agreed by the playing members before such changes are

put in place. Where this is not possible due to time limits, it is to be left to the discretion of the

Match Secretary

13) CLUB HOUSE CLOSURE TIMES

All members are to leave the Clubhouse and the Clubhouse is to be locked at 11pm daily. Members may request the Committee for an extension to this time for special occasions.

CLUB COMPETITION RULES: FROM 2010

First name is the challenger. Dates of matches are to be agreed by both contestants.

At least two dates to be proposed by the challenger. If match is not played both players will be eliminated from the next round of that competition, unless the game is given away by one of the players, in which case their opponent will go through to the next round.

The Challenger is required to find a score taker.

(a) Championship First player to:

-21 shots (men’s competition)

-21 shots (women’s Competition)

(b) Handicap -21 shots The difference in handicap levels is to be displayed

on the lower handicapped player’s score board before

the start of the game.

(c) Mixed Singles -21 shots

(d) Two Woods -21 shots

(e) Novices -21 shots

(f) Pairs -21 Ends An Extra end to be played as per above.

(g) Triples - To be held over one or two days and played through to a conclusion.

The Management Committee are to organise the competition in an

appropriate manner, dependent upon the number of players wishing

to take part.

(h) Club Finals - Any finalist, who is unable to play their match on Finals Day,

for any reason whatsoever, will forfeit the game and the other Finalist,

shall be granted a walkover.

If both Finalists are unable to play their match on Finals Day, for any

reason whatsoever, the competition will be declared void.
