Performance Objectives

Upon successful completion of Chapter 2, you will be able to: 1 Complete a spelling check and a grammar check on text in a document 2 Display readability statistics 3 Create a custom dictionary, change the default dictionary, and remove a

dictionary 4 Display document word, paragraph, and character counts 5 Insert line numbers 6 Display synonyms and antonyms for specific words using the thesaurus 7 Use the Smart Lookup feature 8 Translate text to and from different languages 9 Sort text in paragraphs, columns, and tables

Microsoft Word includes proofing tools to help you create well-written, error-free documents. These tools include a spelling checker, grammar checker, and thesaurus. If documents will be created with specific words, terms, or acronyms not found in the main spelling dictionary, a custom dictionary can be created. When completing a spelling check, the spelling checker will compare words in a document with the main dictionary as well as a custom dictionary. Word provides a translation feature for translating text into different languages. In Word, text in paragraphs, columns and tables can be sorted alphabetically or numerically in ascending or descending order. In this chapter, you will learn how to use the proofing tools, create a custom dictionary, translate text to and from different languages, and sort text.
