What Sammy Heard

Key Word: Eternal

Key Verse: What is born of the flesh is flesh and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. John 3:6

It was a beautiful night and Sammy was so happy to be with his father and other men who had spent the day with a holy man named Jesus. Not everyone liked Jesus, but his father and their friends sure did. Sammy knew one thing for sure; Jesus loved children and he spoke to Sammy almost every day they were together.

All of a sudden everyone seemed to be alert. There was a person walking toward the camp but his face was covered as was his whole body with very expensive robes. Sammy could only see his eyes when he walked by the fire. One of the disciples, Sammy thought it was Andrew, led the man to the place where Jesus was staying. Sammy wondered if it would be all right to listen in to the conversation. He walked very quietly and stayed in the shadows until he was as close as a young boy should get. The man who kept everything hidden, took off some of his robes, sat down across from Jesus and began to ask him hard questions. Sammy could now see the man's face and he recognized it as someone whom he had seen in the temple. The same man had joined other rich men to listen to Jesus speak that day. The other

men seemed to be disgusted or make fun of Jesus but Sammy remembered that this one was different. Now a man, Jesus called Nicodemus, had come to their camp to learn more from Jesus.

The followers of Jesus were very impressed with Nicodemus. He was a powerful man in Jerusalem and many listened to him. But on this night all the power seemed to be in the voice of Jesus and Nicodemus listened to every word that Jesus spoke.

When Nicodemus left the camp that night he did not cover himself so completely but instead gave thanks to Jesus and promised him that they would meet again.
