4.8.201-19049Why Do You Seek The Living Among the Dead?Luke 24:1-12But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb,?taking the spices they had prepared.?2?And they found?the stone rolled away from the tomb,?3?but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.?4?While they were perplexed about this, behold,?two?men stood by them in dazzling apparel.?5?And as they were?frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead??6?He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you,?while he was still in Galilee,?7?that the Son of Man?must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and?be crucified and on?the third day rise.”?8?And?they remembered his words,?9?and returning from the tomb they?told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.?10?Now it was?Mary Magdalene and?Joanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told these things to the apostles,?11?but these words seemed to them an idle tale, and?they did not believe them.?12?But?Peter rose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw?the linen cloths by themselves; and he went home marveling at what had happened.BIG IDEA: The good news of the resurrection is the reminder that New Life is a gift from God that calls us to walk with awe and to share this with others. What friends or leaders have you connected with today? Are there any you would like to talk to or encourage? Take a moment to send out some texts of encouragement and love to at least 5 people. DO IT!What is the best gift you have ever received from someone?Describe some of the feelings you had when you finally got that gift you really wanted? Background thought: Begin to process the idea that the good news of the resurrection is a gift that should make us feel awestruck, and excited to share the good news with others.Read Luke 24:1-12 to see the gift that Jesus has given to us. What stands out to you from this passage? Who were the first people to hear about Jesus’ resurrection? What were their reactions? What were the reactions of those they told?Theological Thought: This is a neat opportunity to see that even the disciples struggled with Jesus’ resurrection. The disciples thought it was an idle tale, and Peter had to go see the tomb. This should give you and the students a safe place to come with doubts, because even the disciples struggled through the resurrection! Who were the two men standing next to the women? What did they say to the women? Why is that important for them and us now? Theological Thought: Luke 24: 5-6 is essential and an opportunity for you to see the beauty of understanding the weight of the resurrection - an opportunity to remember what Jesus promised He would do for His people. What do you think your reaction would have been like? Similar to the women, or the disciples? Why?When the followers of Jesus found out that he was alive, they did two things: 1) they went and told others and 2) they marveled at what they saw in the empty tomb. Where are you? Are you awestruck with the Good news? Are you ready to go and tell others? If you answer to the above question is neither, what is holding you back from believing this good news? (If a student is struggle that is okay! This is an awesome opportunity to encourage them and walk alongside them as a community!)Who could be your one person you could encourage or share the Good News with this week (family, friends, teammates, or teachers)? What is a way you could do that creatively in this time of quarantine? Closing prayer:Pray for that person you’d like to share the Good News with. Ask God to give you an opportunity to share His Good News with them. ................
