|Responsible To: |Head of Home |

|Primary Purpose: |To assist in providing a positive living experience for the resident young people by caring |

| |for their physical, emotional and social needs. |

|Main Duties and Responsibilities: |

|To encourage and stimulate emotional and social growth by devising and organising out-of-school activities, encouraging the |

|children/young people to socialise and to join organisations outside the Home. |

|To make specific contributions to the, formation and the implementation of care/placement for young people. |

|To work in partnership with families and carers of children, Social Workers and other outside agencies, as required. |

|To participate in admission process, case conferences and reviews, producing reports on individual children/young people’s |

|development/progress. |

|To facilitate children/young people to develop life and social skills and age-appropriate independence and to learn to manage their |

|own behaviour through the establishment of purposeful and constructive relationships. |

|To facilitate the provision of a warm, accepting environment within which the physical, emotional, social, educational, cultural, |

|and spirited needs of individuals can be met. |

|To manage the behaviour of individual and groups of children/young people appropriately and within the guidelines laid down by the |

|Service and the Children’s Homes Regulations. |

|To undertake link worker tasks and responsibilities. |

|To assist in maintaining proper records in accordance with the recording guidelines. |

|To ensure that behaviour and actions at work are in accordance with the Service’s Equal Opportunities policy, and to challenge |

|attitudes and practices within the Home that are discriminatory. |

|(Range 4 only) To take occasional responsibility for the daily running of the Home on a planned basis in the absence of senior staff|

|and the Head of Home. |

|To work in accordance with Service policies, the Children’s Homes Regulations 1991, and current Health & Safety legislation. |

|To attend relevant courses and study days to develop and broaden awareness and skills in accordance with the Home’s staff |

|development/training plan. |

|To constructively contribute to staff meetings. |

|To work on a shift basis to ensure 24 hour care. This may include providing cover at other establishments if the need arises. |

|Undertake sleeping in duties as required. |

|To undertake moving and handling duties as required. |

|To be aware of the Council’s aims, organisational values and behaviours and their impact on this post. |

|To participate in the Council’s performance management processes. |

|To carry out the duties of the post in accordance with the Council’s diversity policy. |

|To carry out all duties and responsibilities with reasonable care for the health and safety of you and any other persons who may be |

|affected by your acts or omissions at work and to co-operate fully with the County Council in health and safety matters. |

|This job description will be supplemented by annual target based outcomes, which will be developed in conjunction with the post |

|holder. It will be subject to regular review and the Council reserves the right to amend or add to the duties listed. |
