"Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he had finished, one of his disciples said to

him, `Lord, teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples.'" Luke 11:1

Scriptures tell us Jesus prayed before every major action in His life. We should strive to follow Jesus' example by always praying first. In that way, we can ensure we are doing God's work and not our own.

PARISH LIFE

The Blessings of Liberty July 4, 2019 I'm writing on Independence Day, contemplating and feeling deeply grateful to our God and to our founders. In the Declaration of Independence the founders declared that we are endowed by our Creator "...with certain unalienable Rights, among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness..."

I have known a number of people who have pursued their happiness, even in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Some of these successful happiness achievers, early on, could not even admit their distant goals for fear of being ridiculed as hopeless dreamers.

I believe that this Country of ours is truly God-given. Throughout history, even to today, many are not accorded, by their fellow man, the right to pursue their happiness. Their path is set for them by their overseers or administrators.

The founders, I think, got the order correctly. You cannot pursue your happiness if you do not first have Liberty. Without Life there is no Liberty or Pursuit of Happiness.

Eleven years after the Declaration of Independence, our founders authored our Constitution. The opening paragraph of The Constitution of The United States of America gives one of the reasons it was "ordained and established" as to: "secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity,". Though they didn't even know us, you and I are the Posterity they were speaking of. So is every little boy or girl conceived in the womb. We all are endowed by our Creator with the unalienable Rights of Life, Liberty and the Right to pursue our chance at happiness. Please champion Life for the defenseless conceived but yet unborn.

May God Bless America. Bud Doyle
