We will demonstrate our knowledge of the information contained in the Summer Assignment by completing a quiz on these topics. We will also explain the relationship between history and time and how historians use measurements of time to aid their research. Finally, we will examine artifacts and act as archeologists in trying to determine their importance.

Closing Task:

Write a Tweet describing the hardest part of your Summer Assignment Quiz. #crushedit #lovehistory

Part I – Geography, Historical Terms, and Religions Quiz (40 minutes) Individual

That’s right… you have a quiz on the second day of class!!! Take this quiz on the information that was covered in your Summer Assignment. If you completed your Summer Assignment and have it with you, you can use the Summer Assignment on the quiz. Pay attention to my directions and follow the instructions. You will turn in your quiz AND your Summer Assignment as directed when finished.

Part II – History and Time (15 minutes) Partners

Working with a partner, use your knowledge from the summer assignment and from your previous history classes and attempt to complete the History & Time worksheet. You are competing against your fellow classmates, so ensure that other partner groups cannot steal your answers! Turn in your completed worksheet (ONE per team) and make sure that BOTH names appear on the paper!

Part III – What is That Artifact? (20 minutes) Partner

You and a partner will be given a variety of “artifacts” to study and examine. You should take on the role of a historian or archeologist – using clues from the artifact to make assumptions (guesses) about that object, the people who used it, and the purpose of the artifact. Complete a NEW “What is That Artifact” sheet for EVERY artifact that you look at – make sure you INCLUDE the NUMBER of the ARTIFACT!

(See Homework on the Back)

Homework:

The following assignments are due NEXT CLASS (September 08):

1. If not already completed – Purchase the supplies necessary for the course (remember the tissues/hand sanitizer/colored pencils!)

2. If not already completed – Read the Course Description sheet WITH your parents/guardians and get this SIGNED.

3. Complete Physical Geography Terms handout.

➢ Go to my website and click on the Pre-AP World History tab in the upper left hand corner. Click on the Geography Unit tab. Click on the Geography Terms PowerPoint (if you don’t have PowerPoint OR if you are using your smartphone, you should use the pdf version). Use this PowerPoint to complete the Physical Geography Terms handout. Use the PowerPoint to help guide you, but you will need to create your OWN definition, your OWN picture, and your OWN example. The terms are NOT in order, so you may have to jump around.

4. Study for quiz on Geography Unit – covering basic terms, how to find latitude/longitude on a map, and identifying physical geographical features.
