This course will include group and individual in-class projects, class discussion, and analysis of art, cartoons, charts, graphs, and other primary sources. This class will encourage students to form their own opinions and to truly think like a historian.?**This is an ADVANCED COURSE. Essay writing, projects, and homework will all be part of this course.**Materials?Three-ring binder (should be used for this class only)Loose leaf paper?Blue or Black Pens?PencilsTextbook: Holt-McDougal. Modern World History.?ExpectationsYou must RESPECT every student in this class, the teacher, and yourselves. Students are allowed to use electronic and technological devices at SPECIFIED times and ONLY when authorized by the teacher for instructional purposes.?GradingThere will be a variety of assessment methods used in this course including tests, quizzes, class activities, daily assignments, bell-ringer checks, and projects. The final grade for each grading period will be based on these methods.?Extra-CreditThe ONLY extra credit that will be provided during this class will be provided by bonus opportunities on assessments.Attendance and Make-up workStudents are expected to attend class in accordance with the school attendance policy. If the absence is excused the student must make up arrangements to make up work within TWO DAYS of the absence. It is the student’s responsibility to inquire about what assignments, material, tests, quizzes, and projects were missed.?Late-work Policy:?Students are expected to turn work in on time. For every day late, the student’s grade will drop by 10%. Semester Exam Exemption Policy?The Tuscaloosa County School Board Policy concerning exams exemption is the following:?Nine weeks comprehensive examinations are mandatory and should count no more than 20% of the six weeks’ grade.?Mandatory comprehensive semester examinations are required for all students except for those students meeting the exemption criteria at the conclusion of the second nine weeks grading period.?In order to be exempt from a semester exam at the semester’s end a student must?Possess an A average with 3 or fewer absences, or?Possess a B average with 2 or fewer absences, or?Possess a C average with 1 or fewer absences, AND have no discipline referrals that result in detention or suspension during the semester.?CommunicationI look forward to an exciting and rewarding rest of the year!
