Jesus & my jerk boss Colossians 3:22-4:1

March 22, 2015 Pastor Arol

2015

1. What has been the worst job you have ever had? What was the best job you ever had?

2. Pastor Arol often makes the comparison of being a "stalker" of Jesus versus being a "follower" of Jesus. Stalkers just keep getting more information about Jesus but don't do anything about it. Followers of Jesus take what they learn and live it. How does one make the transition from being a "stalker" to being a "follower"? What has to change?

3. Have you ever considered your job a "calling"? Why or why not? What is the difference between just working a job and working a job as a "calling"?

4. (Colossians 3:1-3) The foundation of our calling is in who we are in Jesus! Do you ever struggle with seeing your identity in your work rather than in Jesus? How does that display itself? Why do we so often identify ourselves by what we do? How do you keep your focus of identity in Jesus rather than in your work?

5. (Mark 10:42-45) What do you think is the main message Jesus is trying to get across in this passage? How did Jesus live this out before the crowds and before His disciples? How can you live this out in your workplace?

6. (Colossians 3:23) "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart..." What are some of the "whatever's" you have to do in your job that seem either insignificant or maybe hard dirty work? How can you do those things with all of your heart? How do you know when you are working with all of your heart?

7. (Colossians 3:23) How does or how has your job changed when you work with the perspective as God is your boss not the person over you? Have you experienced an attitude change and/or more effectiveness in your job?

8. (Colossians 3:23-24) What do you think are some of the rewards we receive when working like this? Are they rewards here on earth and/or heaven?

9. Have you ever considered your job or work as sacred? Why do we tend to divide our work into either the secular or the sacred...the world or the Church? Why is it so important to see our employment, our career, as something sacred? How does this change our purpose for working?

10. (Colossians 4:1) What is your definition of "right and fair"? Why do you think Paul doesn't elaborate in defining what "right and fair" are?

11. Whether employer or employee, we discover we are both working for the same boss, Jesus Christ. What is something practical you can do this week to display that fact?
