Description: The Worthington Fire Protection District is a combination department operating three career companies on three 24/48 platoons providing fire and medical first response services to north-eastern Metro Louisville, Kentucky and eastern Oldham County, Kentucky. The department will be accepting applications and testing for an eligibility list to fill open entry level positions for the next 24 months.

Position Title: Firefighter-Emergency Medical Technician (56 hour a week career employees)

Type of Examination: Eligibility List-Competitive Process (NO CURRENT OPEN POSITIONS)

Position Location: Worthington Fire Protection District

Date and Time of Exams: If an applicant is currently IFSAC Firefighter 1 and II, Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations certified then they can opt out of the written exam and take an 80 score on the exam. They must state that by letter at the time of application.

Applicants will be notified by letter if they have been accepted to attend the written examination session. If applicant successfully passes the written examination, then they will be invited to compete in the Oral Examination.

Applicants will be notified by mail if they have been accepted to compete in that process.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The following are required minimum standards to hold the rank of Firefighter-EMT with the Worthington Fire Department.

At least Eighteen (18) years of age. Must possess high school degree, or its equivalent, as required by KRS 95A.230 Kentucky 400 Hour Firefighter Certification. Successfully maintained Active Status for one year probationary period. Must possess current CPAT card at the time of hire Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire and maintain, a valid driver's

license. Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language. Must meet insurability requirements of district insurance carriers. Must obtain at least 100 hours of fire service training annually. Must maintain Hazardous Materials Operations Certification Must be able to complete and pass districts annual physical exam.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES IFSAC Firefighter I, II, Hazardous Materials Awareness and Hazardous Materials Operations Certification. Kentucky (KBEMS) Licensed Paramedic with all current Certifications (ACLS, PALS)

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of: - Fire suppression and prevention principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment. Skill in the operation of firefighting tools and equipment. Ability to: - Apply standard firefighting and emergency medical techniques to specific situations. - To follow verbal and written instructions. - Handle stressful situations. - Handle all physical requirements of the job. - Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. - Establish effective working relationships with members, other agencies and the public.

- Perform strenuous or peak physical efforts during emergency or training activities for prolonged periods of time under conditions of extreme heights, intense heat, cold or smoke.

Position Selection Process: Successful completion of a written examination: Oral exam Medical Examination and Drug Screening Background Investigation CPAT (required at time of hiring)
