Writing Assignment – Short story

Writing Assignment – Short story

Over the last few weeks you have been learning about descriptive language. You have learned how to build a character up using direct and non-direct description. You have learned about how good authors are actually good liars, and include important details in their writing.

This is an assessed piece of writing, and will go towards your writing grade in your reports.

Your task is to write a story, employing the following techniques;

• Direct and non-direct description of character and setting

• Nothing, nothing, nothing SOMETHING plot technique

• Inclusion of details that make the writing believable.

The writing will need to be at least 200 words long. This will mainly be completed for homework, but there will be some class time in case you need some help. It is expected that you complete your draft, your 2nd draft and then your final copy.

-----------------------

Do you need more help? If you are having trouble starting, begin by writing about a character.

Paragraph 1: describe them indirectly, i.e through their actions, or through their surroundings.

Paragraph 2: Describe them directly. Their physical appearance, and their personality.

Paragraph 3-4: Describe the detail of their actions, leading towards the nothing, nothing, nothing, SOMETHING plot line.

Finish the rest of the story.

Assessment

You will be assessed on whether you have a good story or not, as well as your intentional usage of the writing techniques that we have looked at in class.
