Assignment due dates:9/1310/410/259/2010/119/2710/18Narrative WritingYou may choose either an autobiographical or completely fictional narrative. See the rubric for more specific expectations.Novel Analysis (*see binder of AP prompts )**This is an assignment that you must do Choose a book from the reading list for this class (lime green), and answer a prompt (in the purple binder) in the form of a 2-3 page essay. We will discuss this, look at sample papers and scoring, and set one up together. You may not use your summer novel for this assignment – read something new!AP Free Response**RequiredThis is another type of AP exam writing, so we’ll look at prompts together first, and there are sample essays available on the website. There will be several choices for this essay in the binder with the green cover. Synthesis EssayThis type of AP exam writing requires you to use information from multiple sources to answer a prompt. In a sense, it’s like a mini research paper, but all the research is done for you. We will practice setting up this type of essay, and you will have several topic choices. Grapes of Wrath Essay. You wrote one essay over the novel as part of your summer assignment. Please choose a different essay from that list. The rubric will be the same. (Argumentative) Position PaperThere is a non-fiction article linked to the website – it’s a contemporary piece about cell phones in a California high school. Take a position on the issue raised in the paper. Do you agree with the reasoning behind locking up cell phones? Do you have a strong, independent position on the issue? You will need to explain and thoroughly support your position with either details from your own knowledge/experience or outside research.Crucible Essay**One essay over this play is required. There will be multiple choices on the website. You may write this essay (at the earliest) after we finish Act One in class.Crucible EssayYou may choose to write a second essay over this play – again, after Act One at the earliest.*All essays should be a minimum of 2 pages in length. I would suggest editing your papers prior to submission.Additional Assignment:At least one of these assignments should be edited by another student in Advanced English 11. For this assignment, you should hand in the edited copy, signed by the editor, and the final draft – which should appear different and better than the first draft.*If you have questions, see me. I will discuss several of these over the course of 1st Quarter, and will have grade sheets available for each essay at ahoffmanshs..Helpful hints:*Make sure you have the correct grading rubric. Print it first, double-check the requirements, and don’t forget to attach it to your essay when you turn it in.*Read carefully for the location of the prompts – the different types can be easy to confuse. They are color-coded purposefully.*Keep track on this sheet when you submit an essay so that you can easily see what you’ve done. ................
