Current Projects: Japan: Researchers are currently working with the National Archives of Japan in Tokyo to locate and reproduce trial records of Japanese war criminals after WWII. An online database with searchable details of over 200 trials of Japanese war criminals is currently being tested in beta-version here.
Singapore-The Center is collaborating with a variety of individuals and institutions in Singapore on an ambitious project focusing on the war crimes trials held there in the aftermath of WWII. This project includes documentation, an oral history of the trials, doctoral research, publication of trial records, and a conference and public exhibition. Our partners include the National University of Singapore (ProfessorsTan Tay Yeong and Kwa Chong Guan), The National Heritage Board (Professor Kevin Tan and Lily Tan), and the National Archives of Singapore.
Australia-In collaboration with the Australian National Archives, we are identifying and digitizing the most important records, including the case files, from the Australian War Crimes Program (1945-1951). These will be available online in the near future.

East Timor and Indonesia
Current Projects: cooperating with the Serious Crimes Unit in East Timor to maintain their data after the court closes at the end of June.
(out of date!!!) East Timor-Internships with the U.N. Panel for Serious Crimes in Dili, East Timor. Researchers from the Center will be analyzing the tribunals currently underway in Dili, East Timor and conducting various independent projects in summer 2005. We are also translating many of the judgements into English (a selection available here). We have also begun hosting the website of the Serious Crimes Unit, which will be shutting down at the end of June 2005.
Indonesia-The monitoring of the Ad Hoc Tribunal in Jakarta, Indonesia is currently underway. An assessment report by Professor David Cohen, director of the UCB War Crimes Studies Center is available here. We are also working on a variety of judicial training and reform programs with the Ad Hoc Court, the Supreme Court of Indonesia, and the Regional Human Rights Courts (see an announcement about the January 2005 training here).
