DISCLAIMER The NREX application consists of a variety of publicly available data layers provided by data partners or collected from other public map service sources, and tools that allow decision makers to view and share information. The datasets vary significantly in their accuracy and scale. The State of Wyoming and its agencies make no express or implied warranties as to this map application and the data it displays. Users of this information should review or consult the primary data and information sources to ascertain the reliability or usability of the information.
A partnership of
Governor Matthew H. Mead and the Wyoming Geographic Information Science Center at the University of Wyoming
Supported by the Wyoming Business Council
WHAT IS NREX? The Natural Resource and Energy Explorer (NREX) is a simple-to-use online mapping tool that conveniently allows public access to data on Wyoming's natural, cultural, socioeconomic, and infrastructure resources.
WHY USE NREX? A good plan requires reliable information, especially when projects involve Wyoming's natural resources. NREX can be a powerful tool in your planning toolbox. It supports planning by facilitating preliminary discovery, analysis and assessment for userdefined areas of interest in the state.
"In Wyoming, we know from experience that you don't have to decide between developing economic resources and preserving the environment. You can do both, if you do it right." WYOMING GOVERNOR MATTHEW H. MEAD
WHO CAN USE NREX? While anyone may access NREX and find its data useful, this tool was designed particularly for users assessing potential place-based resource allocation concerns. These users include: ? Land developers ? Conservationists ? Natural resource managers ? Local government planners
NREX is intended to provide useful, landscapelevel information during the early stages of project planning. This application does not replace or supersede site specific analysis or direct communication with appropriate agencies. Users should consult with all appropriate agencies for site-specific analyses and permitting requirements.
WHAT ABOUT SENSITIVE DATA SETS? NREX preserves the confidentiality of sensitive data sets. Sensitive data is generalized, preventing a user from determining specific location-- significant cultural sites, sage grouse leks, raptor nests and similar information. The native data contained in NREX is publicly available. NREX simply allows it to be accessed, saved, shared, and analyzed in one location. NREX also allows users to view their own data while keeping that information secure.

THE GOVERNOR'S ENERGY STRATEGY NREX was designed to support the Governor's Energy Strategy by providing public access to credible geographic data and information.
The Energy Strategy is an important framework of principles and action initiatives that are helping Wyoming prepare for the future. It was developed with the idea that Wyoming has led--and continues to lead--the nation in energy development and environmental stewardship.
