In 1981, Schmulbach et al. reported 2,200 acres of sandbar remaining along the 50 mile stretch of river below Gavins Point Dam that is designated as the Missouri National Recreation Area. In the LMR, 158,074 acres of bare sandbar habitat occurred above the Low Water Reference Plane (LWRP) in 1948. ................
