The "2017 Wyoming Agricultural Statistics" bulletin is now online only. NASS published the first Wyoming cattle estimates in 1867, 23 years before Wyoming became a state. Happy 150th birthday!

I would like to thank all of the farmers, ranchers, agribusinesses, state and federal agricultural staff, and others in the Wyoming agricultural industry for their efforts and contributions to this publication. Whether you provided, collected, analyzed, or compiled this data, your efforts produce the best estimates of Wyoming agriculture possible.

Highlighted in photographs this year are a few of Wyoming's cattle. Wyoming has dairy, feedlot, cow/calf, purebred, and rodeo stock cattle operations. Over half of all farms and ranches in Wyoming raise cattle and cattle accounted for 62% of Wyoming's total cash receipts in 2016

This book is a compilation of the Wyoming data included in over 500 reports published each year by the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). A calendar showing the report release dates can be found in the back of this publication and on the NASS website at:

Wyoming farmers, ranchers, and agribusinesses voluntarily provide their individual information which is then summarized to the National, State, and County level. Inside the back cover is the Wyoming Cropland Data Layer generated from our CropScape tool. This is a free, interactive tool that allows users to generate the acres of land use within in any geographic boundary. A similar online tool called VegScape will show the vegetative index, or "greenness", in any region with comparisons to previous years. These two satellite tools bring the power of geospatial information to your local desktop computer or mobile phone with a simple internet connection.
