Dear Farmers, Ranchers, and Others Interested in Wyoming Agriculture,

I am proud to present the "2016 Wyoming Agricultural Statistics" annual bulletin online.

I would like to thank all of the farmers, ranchers, agribusinesses, state and federal agricultural staff, and others in the Wyoming agricultural industry for their efforts and contributions to this publication. Whether you provided, collected, analyzed, or compiled this data, your efforts produce the best estimates of Wyoming agriculture possible.

Highlighted in the bulletin this year are the Wyoming sugarbeet growers. The front and back covers as well as the Crops title page show a family harvesting sugarbeets near Powell, Wyoming. Wyoming farmers have set record sugarbeet yields seven of the last eight years. Well done!

This book is a compilation of the Wyoming data included in over 500 reports published each year by the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). A calendar showing the report release dates can be found in the back of this publication and on the NASS website at:

Wyoming farmers, ranchers, and agribusinesses voluntarily provide their individual information which is then summarized to the National, State, and County level. In addition to the information in this bulletin, a vast amount of detailed State and County information, both historic and current, about Wyoming agriculture is available from the multitude of annual reports we publish and the Census of Agriculture. For more information, please visit our website at: http:\\nass.\

Inside the back cover is the Wyoming Cropland Data Layer for 2015 generated from our CropScape tool. This is a free, interactive tool that allows users to generate the acres of land within in any geographic boundary. The map also shows the Agricultural Statistics District boundaries used for district and county estimates. A similar online tool called VegScape will show the vegetative index in any region with comparisons to previous years. I encourage all who work with the land in Wyoming to explore these two valuable tools.

Sincerely,

Rhonda Brandt State Statistician
