Coordinate Plane Pictures

**Christmas Coordinate Plane Pictures Extra Credit**

Class: 6 Course 1

Due Date: Monday, December 5

Directions: You must complete all tasks on this page (Front and back) in order to earn 5 bonus points. It must be turned in by the due date in order to earn the points as well. Keep your work neat and as these will be hung in the hallway!

Task 1: Graph a picture on a coordinate plane.

Your first task is to identify the picture that is created by drawing a line between each ordered pair like a dot-to-dot picture. Plot the ordered pairs (x,y) as we did in class.

a. Remember the first number (x) tells us how to move _________________.

b. The second number (y) tells us how to move _______________________.

c. Plot the following ordered pairs in the order they are listed.

|Number |Ordered Pair |

|1 |(-1, -3) |

|2 |(1, -3) |

|3 |(1, -2) |

|4 |(5, -2) |

|5 |(2, 1) |

|6 |(4, 1) |

|7 |(2, 3) |

|8 |(3, 3) |

|9 |(1, 5) |

|10 |(2, 5) |

|11 |(0, 7) |

|12 |(-2, 5) |

|13 |(-1, 5) |

|14 |(-3, 3) |

|15 |(-2, 3) |

|16 |(-4, 1) |

|17 |(-2, 1) |

|18 |(-5, -2) |

|19 |(-1, -2) |

|20 |(-1, -3) |

d. The picture I plotted formed a ____________________________.

Color the picture neatly once you are finished. I will be hanging the finished extra credit pictures in the hallway so make them look nice!

Task 2: Create a Christmas picture on a coordinate plane

Set up a piece of 1/4 inch square graph paper with an x and y axis in the center. Guidelines for creating the dot-to-dot picture:

a. Must have points in all 4 quadrants

b. Minimum of 15 points

c. Points must be in order and numbered. You cannot pick up the pencil and move to another place.

d. Lines MUST change direction at a point (i.e., a straight line only has points at the end - no intermediary points)

e. Retracing a line is allowed, but you must remember that the line must change directions at a point.

f. The picture must be something recognizable. You may not create the same object that you just drew for Task 1.

Task 3: Write the Ordered Pairs for you Picture

After you create your drawing on the coordinate plane, you must make a list (in the correct order) of the ordered pairs that another student would have to use to create your picture. Make sure you write this list on a separate piece of paper so someone can actually try your picture later.

Have fun and be creative with your designs… but make sure you make a Christmas themed picture!
