By the Pythagorean theorem, y squared = x squared + x squared. Therefore y squared = 2, x squared and y = the positive square root of 2, times x. So the lengths of the sides are in the ratio x to x, to the positive square root of 2, times x, which is the same as the ratio 1 to 1 to the positive square root of 2. ................
