HEALTH NEWS

Crunch & Sip(

Turn off the TV or computer

and get active

✓ Set a limit on the amount of time children watch television or spend on the computer. Two hours a day is the maximum. Too much screen times limits physical activity

✓ On the weekend, live life instead of watching it on TV. Find a new place to hike, bike or run. When you hear “I’m bored” – think of something active to do

✓ Encourage active play, which builds social, mental and physical motor skills.

Why reduce television time?

➢ Studies have shown we use less energy watching TV than sitting still

➢ TV influences the food choice of kids – Australia has a high rate of food advertising during children’s viewing hours

➢ TV replaces time a child can be active and enjoy physical activity

➢ There is an association between TV watching and being overweight

➢ 40% of children 5 – 12 years report watching an average of two hours or more of television or videos a day.

On the weekend I played my iPod . I played True Skate, Grand Theft Auto, My Twins and Pay Back 2. In a race I came 4th, 6th, 2nd and 1st. It was easy and fun. Then we went up to Ma’s place. We had a Fandangle. My Fandangle was flavoured Toffee Whoopie Cookie. They were yummy. You get sticks and they are coloured. Every Fandangle I had the stick that was coloured pink. The sticks had little stars on them. There was Fairy Floss but I had Toffee Whoopie Cookie because I don’t like Fairy Floss flavour.

On the weekend we played the xbox. I had Stealth Elf and I beat Seth. Seth said “I want a rematch.” But I beat him again. We had dinner and then we had dessert.

Senior Room

The Senior Room have been writing information reports about special celebrations.

St Patrick’s Day

On 17 March each year, Irish people celebrate St Patrick’s Day with everyone around the world.

The shamrock, pot-of-gold and leprechauns are associated with St Patrick’s Day. The shamrock is worn as a badge on the lapel. Shamrocks are supposed to bring good luck.

The people drink beer and eat corn beef and cabbage on the day.

The leprechauns are a small Irish fairy. If you can catch a leprechaun don’t look away because it will vanish along with his treasure. Leprechauns wear leather aprons.

On St Patrick’s Day, everyone not wearing green, you are suppose to pinch them.

By Ethan

On March 17th, Irish people and many other people get together at Ireland and many other states to celebrate.

On this day people celebrate by eating corned beef and cabbage to remember about St. Patrick that died that day. They drink beer to celebrate the same thing for St. Patrick.

On this day people all around the world have to wear green clothes to remember St Patrick that died, so now we remember him every year. Whoever doesn’t wear green clothes, gets the traditional pinch on the body.

On this day shamrocks bring good luck to whoever finds it. A badge on the lapel is to represent the four leaf clover. There is also a pot of gold when leprechauns were associated with St. Patrick’s Day.

The most interesting thing is if they don’t wear green they get the traditional pinch on the body.

By Joanne

On March 17, St Patrick’s Day is mostly celebrated in Ireland and in other countries.

On St. Patrick’s Day most people wear green. Sometimes they celebrate by dying things green. People in Ireland pinch people if they are not wearing green.

The leprechaun is a small Irish fairy. He dresses like a shoe maker. They are unfriendly and they live in the forest spending their time making shoes.

Corned beef and cabbage are traditional foods eaten on this day. They drink lots of beer.

My favourite custom is the leprechaun.
