My Family: Ho Ho No

Sunday, 19 December 2010

Susan tells Ben she has decided to make this Christmas a non-festive occasion, with no tree, no decorations, and, most

importantly, no family. Ben thinks all his Christmases have come at once.

Susan whisks him away to a relaxing retreat in the country where the rest of the Harper family cannot ruin his ‘festivity free’

Christmas.

However, Susan, of course, has secretly planned her own version of the perfect Christmas and arranges for the whole family to

surprise a thoroughly relaxed Ben on the big day.

Despite Michael and Janey’s misgivings, Susan is determined that, if everyone sticks to their schedule, it will work. She hadn’t

figured on the things that could go wrong - and did.

The Best Of Mr Bean

Sunday, 19 December 2010

The first episode of the original Mr Bean series starring Rowan Atkinson was first broadcast on January 1st 1990. Twenty years

on, and Mr Bean has become famous all over the world, and has received numerous awards worldwide including the Golden Rose of

Montreux, an international Emmy, two BANFF awards and an ACE award for best comedy. In 2002 the character was transformed into

an animated series, with Rowan Atkinson providing all of Mr Bean’s vocal sounds.

Mr Bean is forever finding ingenious solutions to life’s everyday problems but he only ever seems to make things worse. In this

television special we revisit some of Mr Bean’s best loved and funniest moments:

The Trouble with Mr. Bean - Mr. Bean oversleeps, but some ingenious driving gets him to his dentist’s appointment on time.

The Return of Mr. Bean - Waiting nervously in the line-up before a Royal Film Performance, Mr. Bean rehearses meticulously for

his big moment.

The Curse of Mr. Bean - During a visit to the swimming pool, Mr Bean gets very excited about the prospect of a dive from the top

board.

Mr. Bean Rides Again - Mr Bean is getting ready to fly off on his holiday and needs to pack his suitcase but his clothes just

won’t fit. He finds a creative solution.

Back to School Mr. Bean - Mr Bean is at a school open-day and in the car park Mr. Bean’s beloved car comes under an unfortunate

bit of pressure which leaves a lasting impression on them both.

Merry Christmas Mr. Bean - It is Christmas time and an excited Mr. Bean creates his usual havoc across the festive season. He

brings new meaning to ‘dressing’ the turkey, whilst his girlfriend, Irma, looks forward to a very special Christmas present.

The Best Of Mr Bean will be repeated on ABC2 – Friday, December 24 at 6:00pm

Midsomer Murders: Ghosts Of Christmas Past

Sunday, 19 December 2010 Repeat

In a special Christmas episode of Midsomer Murders Jennifer Carter (Haydn Gwynne) is hosting a Christmas get-together at the

crumbling family seat of Draycott House, nine years after her brother, magician Ferdy Villiers killed himself.

Jennifer’s frail aunt Lydia (Margery Mason), sister Kate (Mel Martin) and brother Ross (Philip Quast) – who inherited the family

fortune before becoming a Buddhist – all have reasons for dreading the reunion, as does her son Aiden (Dominic Colenso), who

arrives from university with his girlfriend Emily (Alice Patten). The only person who seems at home is Jennifer and Lydia’s

bridge companion Dominic Jones (Bruce Alexander).

When Kate’s precocious son Howard (Rory Corpus) reads a cracker riddle saying two people will die before midnight on Boxing Day,

the guests think it is a tasteless joke. But hours later Lydia is found trapped in a garage full of exhaust fumes, then falls

down the stairs.

Barnaby (John Nettles) escapes from a turgid Christmas with his in-laws to investigate with Scott. Lydia regains consciousness

and tells them she was pushed.

The detectives probe the Villiers’ family history and the events that led to Ferdy’s suicide, including the betrayal of his

assistant and fiancée Claire (Clare English), who was hated by the family.

As Barnaby discovers the old lady’s diaries covering the past 15 years, news comes from the hospital that Lydia has died. One

diary is missing – the year of Ferdy’s death.

Then there’s a death at the Boxing Day shoot and Howard’s riddle is fulfilled. Have the ghosts of past Christmases returned to

haunt the family – and who is really performing sleight of hand?

The Private Life Of A Christmas Masterpiece

Sunday, 19 December 2010

One of the most popular paintings in the National Gallery in London, Botticelli’s Mystic Nativity is a picture of hope in

difficult times. The Private Life of a Christmas Masterpiece reveals the story behind this work of art.

The Mystic Nativity is one of the most beautiful of all nativities, featuring beautiful flying angels and a blonde Madonna. It

was painted in Florence around 1500, during a particularly turbulent period in the city’s history.

The ruling Medici family had been driven into exile; an invading French army had captured Milan and was preparing to march

against Florence; plague and famine were on the horizon. Many Florentines – including Botticelli – regarded these troubles as

proof that the Apocalypse and the end of the world were close.

The program explores the connections between the symbolism in Botticelli’s painting and the preachings of a radical Dominican

monk, Girolamo Savonarola. Savonarola preached against the excesses of Florence’s citizens, warning that the city was suffering

because it had offended God.

But despite the Mystic Nativity’s potentially dangerous influences and its extremely subversive content, Botticelli felt very

strongly about the picture – and was determined to be associated with it. The only painting he ever signed, it has a bizarre

Greek inscription expressing Botticelli’s apocalyptic fears and his conviction that man will be redeemed in heaven. The film

goes on to explore the artwork’s unlikely path to fame. The first Botticelli painting ever to reach England (in 1796), it was a

long time before anyone recognised it as a great work of art.

Family Confidential: The Mundines

Monday, 20 December 2010

Australia’s most high-profile Aboriginal family, the Mundines, whose members include boxing legends Tony and Anthony ‘Choc’, are

cursed from a source that once gave them power and unity.

A remarkable act of charity 60 years ago gave the Mundines an extraordinary advantage over many others in their community. The

owners of a NSW cattle station, where the Mundines lived and worked, gave the family 50 acres of land to call their own.

Having this property saved the family from untold suffering and dispossession by the Aboriginal Protection Board. It was a

gathering place for the clan, and the children who grew up in its bushland came to cherish ‘The Square’ as it became known, and

the roots it gave them. There were even jobs for all the Mundine men when a mine opened and operated right next door.

A new generation grew up with the confidence and wherewithal to move to the city and build exciting new futures. Leading the

charge was Tony Mundine who became a world champion boxer – and put the family, and Baryulgil, on the map.

But gradually the Mundines became aware that for all their success, something was terribly wrong. In an ironic twist, the land

that had given them so much was slowly but surely killing them.

Now, the Mundine women, who’ve held the family pain for over 30 years, are finally telling their story. They’ve lost hundreds of

their family and many are still getting sick and dying. Led by Tony and the most famous of them all, his son, ‘Choc’, the family

is facing the fight of their lives.

Willie's Chocolate Revolution

Monday, 20 December 2010 Final

In the final episode, the stakes could not be higher as Willie takes his perfect recipe to the head buyer at a major

supermarket. Everything rests on one man’s decision to secure the order.

Meanwhile, Willie takes his new chocolate bar to his old friend, legendary chef Marco Pierre White for his seal of approval.

After six months of trying to convert his chocoholic group, it seems that Willie has made a breakthrough – they love the stuff

and are willing to ditch the chocolate they used to eat for Willie’s chocolate bars – a triumph!

Finally, Willie gets the call he’s been waiting for. The supermarket wants to place a large order, so the pressure is now on him

to get the packaging and design completed in time. Just as things seem to be going smoothly, disaster strikes – the equipment

breaks down, the wrapping machine won’t work properly, and at the 11th hour, Willie has to hire 18 people to hand wrap his

chocolate bars. The pressure is on – will he make the delivery deadline? It’s make or break time.

To The Manor Bowen: All About Laurence

Tuesday, 21 December 2010

The worst floods in living memory threatened to cancel the Bowen-Llewelyn’s summer party but miraculously, the waters drain away

in time for 300 neighbours and friends to enjoy their hospitality.

Laurence’s Auntie Val (a surrogate parent) presents him with a very special roll of wallpaper– the inspiration for his design

career. Not to be outdone, Jackie’s PA Donna presents her with a birthday flying lesson. Laurence is choked with jealousy as

Jackie hangs out with the pilots and rechristens herself Top Mum!

Meanwhile Cecile and Hermione have broken up from school, and with Jackie busy running the business, that leaves the celebrity

dad in charge. The girls and their friends fail to see eye to eye with Laurence on what makes a good day out. The farm bores

Laurence senseless, but a day out at the quarry? Guess who’s enjoying himself now?

Laurence also takes the girls to a very special event commemorating the work of his father Trefor Llewelyn Bowen, founder of a

charity dedicated to helping special needs children. Trefor was a talented orthopaedic surgeon who died of leukaemia at 42, when

Laurence was only nine. The event sparks Cecile’s interest in the grandfather she never knew and the impact his death had on her

father.

The builders score top marks when they manage to complete Laurence’s kitchen in time for the scheduled photo shoot and then find

themselves starring in it.

Laurence finally finds a trip to please everyone when he takes them to Blackpool where he has been invited to design this

summer’s illuminations. The whole family goes to watch him turn them on.

Wednesday, 22 December 2010

Peter Helliar and The Trophy Room teams will delight viewers with their odd-ball sporting humour this Christmas.

Each Wednesday the half-hour, weekly quiz show for both casual and committed sports fans of all ages features celebrity sporting

heroes, comedians and performers.

The two star-studded teams of three combine sports chat and trivia with parlour games and physical sporting challenges in a

fiercely contested and fun-filled half-hour.

Peter’s inherent love of sport and his sense of humour make him the ideal host for the family-friendly panel show.

Well known for his passion for AFL and winter sports, Peter is thrilled to have a forum to discuss summer sports.

The Trophy Room means he can talk about summer sports without actually playing them – which means he can stay out of the sun –

which for a pasty blonde like Peter is almost worthy of a trophy itself.

“My trophy room at home lacks one important ingredient – trophies,” he says. “It’s not the same having old paper ‘encouragement’

certificates from fast food outlets blu-tacked to the wall.

“As Australia and the old enemy England do battle for the Ashes I can’t help but feel The Trophy Room is just what the country

needs right now – a fun, summer sports quiz show the entire family can enjoy.”

Sleek Geeks: Colour

Thursday, 23 December 2010

This week Karl and Adam take us through the fascinating world of colour. We follow the moment photons leave the sun right up to

the point that the brain processes the waves and interprets them as colours.

Adam explains optical illusions while Karl compares types of light, (tungsten, fluoro and LED). Karl visits an eye specialist to

discover why some people’s eyes are blue, and in doing so finds out he has a scarred retina. He also gets an MRI to find the

colour centres in the brain. In finding them he also discovers he has a non-symmetrical brain. Adam investigates the way that

colour determines the value of salmon and how farmers dye the fish through their feed.

The Geeks explain why we see rainbows and why the rainbow we’re looking at is different from the one the person next to us is

looking at. Karl uses a laser and coloured balloons to explain wave absorption and show how to pop a red balloon inside a green

balloon. Ruben ignites hydrogen-filled balloons to produce explosions of heat and visible light. By adding chemicals called

metal salts he creates a colourful firework display. Karl tries to pop a green balloon with a green laser and Ruben ignites

mineral salts to create colourful fireworks. Claudia Karvan enters the Geekdom and is joined by students of Brent St School for

9:25pm Repeat/Final

Breaking Bad: Crazy Handful Of Nothin/ A No-Rough-Stuff-Type Deal (Compile Of Eps 6 and 7)

Crazy Handful Of Nothin

Now that his cancer treatments are underway, Walt (Bryan Cranston) must juggle their debilitating side effects with the fragile web of lies he has spun in order to prevent Skyler (Anna Gunn) from learning how he’s paying for them.

No longer able to keep Jesse (Aaron Paul) from seeing that he is very sick, his problems mount as Hank’s (Dean Norris) investigation into the disappearance of his informant, Krazy-8, uncovers one of the respirators that was stolen from the high school for the mobile meth lab.

To make matters worse, when he discovers that Jesse is selling the drugs in such small quantities that they won’t make enough money to cover the cost of his treatments, Walt insists he find a wholesaler who can buy a pound or more every week. Jesse looks to his friend, Skinny Pete (Charles Baker), who introduces him to Tuco (Raymond Cruz), a hardened ex-con with a thriving meth business. But when Jesse demands to be paid up front, Tuco flies into a drug-fuelled rage that lands Jesse in the hospital.

Upon learning that Jesse has been seriously injured and is in no shape to talk, Walt presses Skinny Pete for everything he knows about Tuco. Armed with this information, he first gets out ahead of his side effects by shaving his head before confronting Tuco about the stolen drugs. Though Tuco and his henchmen don’t take him all that seriously, they quickly realise their mistake when Walt uses some highly explosive chemicals to wreak havoc on their cantina headquarters and put them off guard. And instead of the $35,000 that Jesse was demanding, an emboldened Walt leaves Tuco and the rubble that used to be his office, with $50,000 and a new business partner.

A No-Rough-Stuff-Type Deal

Although he should be worried, Walt (Bryan Cranston) finds it erotically exciting to stay one step ahead of the police investigation that could ultimately tie him to a pair of murders. While the beating he suffered has Jesse (Aaron Paul) looking to sell his house and get out of the drug trade altogether, the new deal Walt has negotiated is restarting their meth lab in order to satisfy the ruthless Tuco (Raymond Cruz). But even though they come up woefully short of what was promised, Walt still convinces Tuco to underwrite the purchase of more equipment and materials for their business.

Meanwhile, as she looks to Dr. Delcavoli for a ray of hope in Walt’s battle with cancer, Skyler’s (Anna Gunn) arrest while returning an expensive baby shower gift has led her to suspect that it was stolen by her sister, Marie.

To make good on the four pounds of meth he promised to deliver to Tuco every week, Walt devises a new process and sends Jesse to procure a long list of lab equipment and chemicals.

To get the time away from home he needs to complete his work, Walt tells Skyler that he is going to spend a few days at a Navajo healing ceremony. However, when Jesse come up one ingredient shy of what they need to manufacture the next batch, Walt’s homemade bomb helps them carry out a daring night time raid on a chemical plant to steal it. And when problems with their mobile lab force them to relocate their operation to Jesse’s basement, they risk being discovered during a realtor’s unexpected open house.

Finally, after delivering a new batch to Tuco, Walt and Jesse get the go ahead to produce as much meth as they can.
