How to Find Stock Information on Yahoo

How to Find Stock Information on Yahoo

Go to

Either enter the stock symbol (if you know it) or type the company name in the “Get Quotes” box and select from the dropdown list.

Find the main company name and click on the symbol link. (Take note of whether it is a NYSE or Nasdaq traded stock. NYSE symbols are three characters long like “SNE” and Nasdaq symbols are four characters long like Starbucks “SBUX.”)

For your project you have to have the following information for each stock you choose:

• Name of the company and its symbol.

• What exchange it is traded on.

• Current Market Price (Last Trade) – how much $ you are investing & # of shares purchased

• 52 Week Range (Explanation of whether the price is currently high or low for the year.)

• P/E Ratio and Div & Yield (if applicable)

• Contact Info for Corporate Office

• Index Membership, Sector, Industry, and Number of Employees

• A brief discussion of what the company does – product lines, brands, products, etc…

• A brief explanation of the company’s financial summary.

• Analyst opinion for the stock? (1 = strong buy 2 = buy 3 = hold 4 = sell 5 = strong sell)

• Who are the company’s competitors?

• Information about recent headlines regarding the company and/or recent events

• Any extras from another source (ex. Company web page, other financial sources)

The next thing you need are reasons why you invested in this particular stock. They have to be real, concrete reasons. Maybe you are a consumer of the business’s products or you shop there. Maybe something has happened lately in the company that you think will increase sales. Maybe they’re a good company but their stock price has fallen recently and you anticipate it going back up. There are lots of possible reasons for investing. Just make sure you give me at least two or three good ones for each investment you choose.

You must invest in at least five different companies.
