Hello 6th Grade Band Students and Parents:
Congratulations on becoming a member of the E.B. Stanley Junior Falcon Band for the 2013-2014 school year!!!!!!! Let me give you some info about 6th grade band.
You do not need to know which instrument you wish to play yet. I’ll begin showing you each instrument and playing them so you can see which you might like to try. We will have tryouts soon to determine exactly what instrument you are best suited for.
If you already have an instrument you wish to play (maybe your mom or dad, aunt or uncle has an instrument at home) get it out and make certain it is in good working condition. If you have NO IDEA what you might like, remember, I will let you try all of the instruments on tryout night to see what you are best at and which instruments you like the best. Don’t buy any instrument just yet!
Being in any school band program is expensive but I assure you we will always try to keep costs to a minimum as much as possible! Here are the basic expenses:
Instrument (varies depending on new or used), Band Book (approx. $9.00), Band Polo Shirt (approx. $15.00). Knowing this ahead of time may help you to budget for these items.
Learning to play an instrument is not only musically educational but just plain FUN! We have band every day for 40 min. and give two concerts each year. Yes, you would be giving a Christmas Concert this Christmas! Beginning band in the 6th grade at E.B. Stanley also insures you a spot in the Mighty Falcon Band at Abingdon High School when that time comes. Everyone LOVES that marching band and to be a member in High School you must begin band this year!
I guess this is a lot to think about. Let me assure you, we can teach anyone to play a band instrument! I’m so glad you’ve decided to give it a try!
