The Trumpet News and Coming EventsSeptember 2016PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE: Welcome back! ?What a dry summer we have been having~! ?A big Thank You goes out to all our Civic Beautification Committee members for maintaining our gardens around town, the U. S. Post Office flowers boxes and the South Yarmouth Post Office containers so beautifully, despite the drought.?I continue to hear people comment on how lovely they are.A big Thank You, as well, to the Handbook Committee for producing such a?lovely reference book to use and refer to on a monthly basis as we journey through the coming Garden Club year.Please pay?attention to how?useful this TRUMPET is to the COMMUNICATION necessary to keep our members up to date about what is happening in our Club. ?The messages from?our Committee Chairs keep us informed as to what is happening; things?needing to be done; scheduling changes, etc. ?At this time, our Club has a VERY BIG NEED for a member to come forward and become Co-Editor of the TRUMPET. ? Candy Vance has?graciously volunteered to become a Co-Editor for this vital communication tool. ?Candy is able to produce the newsletter for November and December 2016 and, February, April and May in 2017. ?Another Co-Editor is needed for January and March in 2017.Even though Trish Wright is no longer a Garden Club member, she offered to publish this month’s newsletter and Gina Mullen has volunteered to produce October. Thank you Trish and Gina~! ? ? The process of producing our newsletter is easily learned by someone with moderate level computer skills. ?So, PLEASE, we need a member to step up to the plate. ?There?will be?a lot of help and?support for you. ?Our Trumpet is an essential communication tool for not only our members but to the Board as well..THANK YOU~! ? ?PLATFORM ARRANGEMENT: Today’s platform arrangement was done by Louise Carbone.CIVIC BEAUTIFICATION:???There will be a fall Civic Beautification meeting on?September 23 at 9:30 AM?in the basement room of the Citizens Bank (next to Shaw’s parking lot, South Yarmouth) ?We will discuss the experiences we had this summer and make future plans.? Please call Carol Coverly if you cannot attend.COASTAL SWEEP CLEANUP: ?(sponsored by Conservation Committee)Wednesday. Sept. 21, 2016, 10:00 AM? (Rain Date:??Thursday. September 22, 10:00 AM.)Smugglers/Bass River BeachOpen to all members of the Yarmouth Garden Club --?Meet at end of parking lot next to the beach! Chamber of Commerce supplies coffee, donuts, bags, gloves, & forms.?Please help clean up our beach from all the Summer litter!? See you there!FLOWER SHOW: We have an exciting Fall lineup for you!? First, a flower arranging workshop has been scheduled for?Monday, October 17?from 10:00 AM until Noon?at St. Davids Episcopal Church.??Second, a Flower Show and Christmas Boutique with the theme "Home For The Holidays" have been scheduled on Saturday, November 19?from?10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, also at St. Davids Episcopal Church,?which will be open to the public.? Arrangements can be made for either Thanksgiving or Christmas for various settings of the home.??Details and signup sheets will be available today for both events.? Any questions or to sign up for the flower workshop after today, please call Vicki Balboni or Joy Shipp.??The Holiday Flower Show and Christmas Boutique will only be successful if you participate by making an arrangement from the selected categories on the signup sheet, bringing all your friends for viewing and shopping the boutique.? If you are a little rusty or want ideas for the Flower Show, please come to the workshop in October for assistance.??We appreciate all the help the members of our garden club are willing and able to participate in this big event!?Thank you,Vicki and Joy, Co-Chairs HERB GARDEN: We will be putting the Herb and Kitchen Gardens to bed for the winter on?Wednesday October 12 at 9:00 AM. Thank you.GARDEN GET-TOGETHERS: We were able to visit four gardens this summer.? Many thanks to Mary Spurr, Liz Wolff, Vicki Balboni, and Marie Gates. ?September is a great month to consider being a part of this program for next year. ?(Our gardens don't look as good in February.) ?We spend about an hour at your garden, mostly chatting about garden issues and getting ideas from each other.? These meetings are very informal and a lot of fun for the hosts as well as the visitors.?
