At 5-6 weeks EGA, a yolk sac becomes visible; it then shrinks and disappears by about 12 weeks. Around 5-6 weeks, an embryo (“fetal pole”) also appears by transvaginal ultrasound at the border of the yolk sac; the normal embryo will grow rapidly, around 1mm per day. Cardiac activity should be seen by the time the embryo is 5mm in length ................
